Hey girls! DH and i want to get our taxes done soon but are worried. Did many of you file yet ? Did you get money back or owe since its our 1st year of being married?

for the most part -- you should get more back when you file MFJ.
remember--now that you are married you are only allowed to do Married Filing Separate or MFJ -- and if you are entitled to any credits -- many times MFS cuts those credits in half to the deteriment of your tax liability.
You can do it either way, but there's a good chance MFJ will give you the lowest amount of taxable income and thus lower your total tax.

we just bought a house (in 08) and DH is taking classes for a second masters We got a refund!

We filed 3 weeks ago and we got a pretty decent refund on Friday. We used it as a down payment for a car!

we got a federal refund but owed the state a small amount, but that is my fault b/c i didn't withhold enough state tax on an IRA i cashed in.

We are filing seperately this year since we were just married in Dec. I am dreading next year :( I know we are going to not get anything back, we don't own anything like a house, and have no studen loans or anything , so I doubt we will get anything back :( Booo

When you go the accountant, have them do it both ways to see which works out better.

we bought a house, i have student loans and have A LOT of stuff we can write off.. PLUS we took advantage of the $7500 first time homeowner stimulus

We both claim zero all year and have school as a deduction. The first year we were married we got back a good chunk!! We were surprised!
