Teachers, name change question.

Teachers, name change question.

I finished my teaching degree in May and I am looking for jobs. My certification is in my maiden name. I am trying to decide what to do about my name change. Should I get my name changed on everything and start applying to jobs in my married name? Or should I stick to my maiden name for the time being. I heard that they don't want to hire newly married females because of maternity leave, even though I am no where near that. So I am not sure what to do. I want to change my name, but if I change my name and do everything in my married name then when they see my transcripts it will be obvious I am newly married. Also how hard is it to change my certificate.

Advice please?

Re: Teachers, name change question.

If your license is in your maiden name I would look for jobs using your maiden name or (this is what I would do) hyphenate it on your resume...it might be easier that way. I hear that it is very hard to get it changed on your degree and licenses...the problem is if you want to go by you rmarried name, then you don't want ppl to start calling you by your maiden name and then have to tell them your 'real' name lol.
Don't worry about not being hired because you are newly married...most districts are looking for teachers they can hire at the beginning of the salary scale to save themselves money- esp these days, lol. Good luck-what is your certification in?

I would keep yours in your maiden name for now and and start the process of changing your name.

I've also heard its a pain in the butt to change your name, but I dont care how many hoops I have to jump through... Im changing mine. Im just waiting on my SS card and my DMV license to come in the mail and I will start changing my name officially through the DOE and all of that.

Good luck with the job search!!!!
