Tell me if you'd have a problem with this...

Original post by Charly

My DH's friend is getting married next summer and they decided to do a combined bachelor/bachelorette party. The intention right now is to do a week at the shore, where all the guys and girls share a house.

I would have no problem if my DH said we are going to Vegas for 5 days, but to tell me you are spending a week in a house with other girls that I don't know....I do have a problem with that, and for the first time want to put my foot down. Most of the guys are married and most of the girls are single.

What would you do?

Thanks ladies. I'm pretty sure he agrees, but it seems like the other guys wives don't have an issue with it. I felt like I would be a controllling biatch if the conversation had to be had. I feel normal now. Thanks!

DH would not go if I weren't invited

That would bother me. I think that is a bad idea.

Yeah, I'd have a problem with this, too. JT would never be up for going to something like that. I find it a bit odd. And it's not like it's a weekend. It's a WEEK.

Definitely no!

Even if it was co-ed who wants to 'share' a crowded house with twenty or more people for a week. I'm too old for that.

For the same amount of money they could probably invite everyone to Vegas for the weekend. That's what they should do.

I would be a little concerned with this...

I asked my DH just to get a guy's perspective (and a 'macho' man at that ) and he said it was definitely odd, would only go if it was his brothers (not for a friend, he said) and would only go for one day ('a week, are they nuts?' was his response). He said that he finds it hard to believe that any guys would go as not only does it not sound fun, but it's sure to cause rifts for the guys and not the groom to be since his FW is there. I was glad to hear that answer! In short, that couple is a little nutty...good luck to them in getting people to go!

Aside from the whole co-ed issue, don't you think that it's a bit presumptous that people are going to take a WEEK off for your bachelor/bachelorette party????

At first i read it wrong and thought you were invited with DH and thought what a nice idea...

but now that i reread...HELL NO! I trust my DH to the utmost, but I would not let him go to this.

How old are these people? Sounds like a week in the Hamptons or Jersey Shore to me.

NO NO and NO WAY!

No way in HELL would I allow this!

Also - I don't think anyone else mentioned this - I wouldn't be happy with DH using a week of his vacation time without me.

Good point...however he gets 4 weeks and I only get 2 so he usually takes days here and there in the summer to play golf...but he could do something for a week without me and have no impact on me.

I asked him how he felt about it. He said he thinks its a terrible idea and all the guys are going to try to talk him out of it. He also said I'm making too much of something that's not until next June. I just wish once he'd say he wouldn't go.

I'm almost embarrassed to say that I think he would want to go if all the other guys do and it would come down to a 'trust' argument between us. He's very close with his friends and I trust them ALL...however I don't trust younger, single girls that I don't know. Just insecurity I guess.

I don't get the whole weekend thing to begin with. What ever happened to a wild night out? DH & I did the one night parties -- we didn't want to put people out. Now we are getting invited to Vegas for a 4 day bachelor and a bachelorette party (seperate ones) -- we are trying to save for a house and a family and we are scraping pennies together to pay for our 1 yr hm trip!! It is a double bachelor party for him and a double bachelorette party for me. He is in both bridal parties and I am in one, so we feel bad saying no, but we are strapped as it is....between all 3 weddings, showers, etc!

We are saying no & I say you PUT YOUR FOOT down on this one too!
