This Secret Santa is giving up!

This Secret Santa is giving up!

Well, I am throwing in the holiday towel. I sent alina her secret santa gift 2 1/2 weeks ago and it still hasn't arrived. My sense is that it was lost or stolen along the way. Unfortunately the gifts are pretty much irreplaceable- one I bought while upstate and the other would be difficult to duplicate exactly. I don't want to say exactly what it was just in case it shows up.

So dear alina, gift number two will be on the way shortly. Thank you for your patience. I can only hope it is worth the wait

How did you send it?

Stef, I think it was sent regular post mail without a tracing ###. I was away the week after thanksgiving, but then called the post office immediately to check if they had anything held there. They said 'No'. Then I got a UPS package notice and got all excited only to discover the Trafalgar Catalogues (why they requre signature I have no clue)!!!

I'll try to call the office again.

Maybe the package was sent back to your santa and its in the mail? I know my post office only holds packages for 5 days (which is definitely NOT enough time if you work for a living and cant take a day off to go to the post office).

see stef, that's entirely possible, but then by now my secret santa would have gotten the package returned... But niether one of us heard anything!!! I think the hold is either 7 or 10 days.

I just called the office today, and nothing for my name is there

I have been putting delivery confirmation on everything!!! It seems they take better care of it if you do..

I agree for the extra $.50 it is well worth it to get the delievery confirmation. I sell on ebay and usually don't mail without the delievery confirmation! Sorry to hear about your package....hopefully it will turn up!!! I just got my electric bill dated for Sept and I called up and said OMG I just got it and she said the post office lost all of them because everyone is calling and they were wondering why 1000 of people didn't pay their bill!!!

This is exactly why I hate the post office. I send almost everything UPS or FedEx now. Its not worth the hassle.

True Stef and what a people don't realize if it weighs more then a few pounds UPS is usually the same price or cheaper!! I only use USPS on the small packages because people don't want to pay alot of shipping on ebay!

The thing about using UPS/Fed Ex instead of the PO is that you have to be home to recieve a UPS package. The PO will either leave it for you or hold it at the PO. If you work (and can't get packaged there) or don't have a doorman, getting UPS or Fed Ex packages is very difficult.

Jess, I agree with your UPS comment!!! I have more trouble with them than with the post office... And unlike the post office (who will take the package back and leave you a not to pick it up from them) the UPS guys just leave it with the next door tenant, and then you have to chase it down...

Re: This Secret Santa is giving up!

The post office wont leave a package for me either!! At least with UPS I can go online and track it - and then redirect it to another address if I want. WIth USPS, if Im not home they just send it back!!

Re: This Secret Santa is giving up!

Stef, you cant track it without a tracking #!!!

Just this past week I ordered Trafalgar vacation brochures, they sent it by UPS and left it in a neighbor's office (a real estate agency, only open 9-5). Luckily, I took off yesterday for other reasons and was able to retrieve it, but in this case, I wasn't even sure if it was the SS package or what, nor was there a tracking #. I was hoping it was SS and was quite disappointed to find the catalogues!!!

I think the post office will redirect them as well.

Re: This Secret Santa is giving up!

The post office will not redirect a package. They wont even release it to someone else without your written permission.

At least for me, I get one of those yellow UPS stickies on my door when a I miss a package. The tracking # is on the sticky and i can reroute it online in about 10 seconds.

The post office on the other hand, I have to wait in a huge ass line to get my package and thats if I happen to even know its there (b/c many times I dont even get the notice in time).

Have I mentioned how much I hate the post office??

Re: This Secret Santa is giving up!

Will UPS or the Post office leave a package at the door if you leave in your own house (as in the suburbs?). I hope I won't have to go through this mess once we're out of the city (in a few years)

Re: This Secret Santa is giving up!

I can't stand any of them but right now I prefer the post office since we have a PO box and DH can easily pick up our packages there. They have a special window for po box pick up.

Knock on wood, I haven't had any personal problems with receiving or sending packages lately.

Anything else I have to have shipped to my office which I am really not supposed to do and a pain if it's something big or heavy.

I live in a building that will accept & sign for packages but then they hold them hostage in their office.

If we are lucky they leave us a notice and then we have to actually find them in the office to get the package between 9am and 5pm.

They once held an airborne document for 2 weeks before saying anything to us. We weren't expecting anything and didn't know to go looking for it. I was leaving to go on vacation - suit case in hand - and the porter that I see EVERY SINGLE morning says, 'I think you have a package.'

Re: This Secret Santa is giving up!

I live in a private house and packages are not usually left at my door b/c most require a signature. Some places like Fed Ex Ground will sometimes leave it at my door which is just as frustrating b/c it could get stolen.

Geesh Cristine can't believe they didn't give you your package for two weeks.

They usually live packages at my door unless it has to be signed for that is UPS, USPS and FEDEX. Guess because I live in the boonies
