I had posted on LIF awhile back about my blood work coming back abnormal, showing I was positive for ANA (meaning I have an auto-immune disease) and also my TSH levels were very high. Well, I went to a Rheumotologist, and she had more blood work done. The ANA came back negative this time, thank goodness! So that had been a false positive the whole time. My TSH levels are still high. I went to my primary care doc yesterday and got a script for Synthroid. They say I have to be on this prob the rest of my life. But, she was telling me something scary... apparently, high Thyroid levels are one of the top reasons for infertility and/or miscarriages!!! She said that it's a VERY good thing we're getting me on the Synthroid NOW, since DH and I obviously wanna have kids in a year or 2. Sheesh! I had no idea that Hypo-Thyroidism could lead to all that!!
Just figured I'd share my new knowledge and my updates

Re: Thyroid issues
well glad everything turned out good.
But yes thyroid issues can give females a hard time getting pregnant, but if you are on the medicine now you should be fine. Once you get pregnant, they will test your thyroid again

wow, I didn't know that! Is this thyroid thing a run in the family kind of thing?? Is it something that is passed down, or do you just develop it on your own?

I don't think it's really in my family, at least not as far as I know I think it could just be a random thing.

My sister and I both have hypo-thyroid and are on Synthroid. My older sister has hyper-thyroid and one of my cousins has hypo. So, I guess it runs in the family....but with my family it could just be coincidence (can't spell---sorry)

Glad to hear things turned out okay. Don't worry much about the synthroid. It's a good thing! DH has been on synthroid for a long time. His mom takes it too. (Actually his parents dog is on it too lol). It's very very common to have to go on this. My best friend and her mom are on it.

Glad you are okay!
I have thyroid disease and I spoke to my gyno about pregnancy just out of curiosity. (At this point, kids are not even on my mind but I still just wanted to ask.) She told me that once you're on medication, it's fine. You can have a normal pregnancy without any complications as long as your thyroid condition is treated.

it is hereditary or it can be caused by stress
Marissa did they say if you were hypo or hyper?

This is true. Also, studies are showing that people who have used diet pills in the past can develop thyroid issues.

i'm sorry you're going through this. i was on synthroid for awhile and it is a very gentle hormone so theres not a lot of side effects from it.
i hope you start to feel better soon. i wouldnt worry about the pregnancy issue. i think theres more of a risk for hyperthyroidism (at least thats what my dr told me) because the heart rate is raised already and pregnancy can raise it more--plus the drugs for hyper are harsher on the body than synthroid. so no worries!!!
