thanks tilde!! your post over on LIF has inspired me to post this since i have been dealing with it at my job!!
this thread has 3 questions:
1 - how many sick days do you get at your job
2 - about how often do you call in sick
3 - what needs to be wrong with you do call in sick?!
i'll start:
1 - we get 12 sick days a year
2 - i rarely get sick so i'd have to say on an average of about once every 6 months i call in
3 - the only reasons i call in sick are the following:
- fever - REALLY sore throat - throwing up/stomach virus - bad back pain (which like never happens ever, but if it did i would stay home b/c i do a lot of hands on work at my job)

1) sick days : Here they are called occassional days because we can use them for anything. Sickness over 3 days requires a doctor's note and may qualify for short term disability depending upon duration. Have to give up 5 days before short terms kicks in. 6 occassional / 2 personal / 20 vacation
2) calling in sick : Rarely. Usually take planned days off to do things.
3) reason to call in : Being practically unconcious or in severe I can't move pain. I don't really get sick, but if I feel that I am contagious, I won't come in.

I have such a laid back office. I dont really have 'vacation/sick days'. I want to take off, I do (with notice). I'm sick, I call in.

Yea, I loose them. So I will take them if needed. It isn't something I can accrue

Nope. I'm not sick often so I dont take off much. Of course I got sick over vacation and still have a little cold, but nothing worth taking off for.

We only get 15 days... that includes vacation/sick/personal which really *****!!! For example i had to make sure that all of 2008 i was not sick or did not call out b/c i had to save up my 15 days for the honeymoon

1. We get 19 days to use as personal, sick, or vacation. 2. Rarely, once in 2008 because my DR told me to stay home or I would end up with pneumonia. 3. If I were to call in sick it would be to see a DR.

14 days a year and we never lose them - I have 32 days right now BUT we dont get maternity leave so I am saving them up
2 - about how often do you call in sick probably twice a year but when I do its usually for 3+ days
3 - what needs to be wrong with you do call in sick?! fever, throwing up
*although if i am trying to get a doctor's appt ( like today ) and they dont have anything available for after work I will leave work early - not often though!

I love my benefit time
I get 12 sick days a year. They can be used for basically anything even dr. appointments scheduled in advance and I love that! I also get 5 personal, 3 floating holidays and 4 weeks vacation plus 13 regular holidays a year. Benefits are probably the best I have ever had plus I don’t have to pay for medical insurance
ETA because apparently I didn’t read.. I call out once every two months usually and sometimes once a month. We are encouraged to use our time.

10 personal days per year; (which also count as sick days) we also get 4.5 weeks of vacation and off from Christmas - New Year's and other 'major' holidays
The sick or personal time carries over from year to year (I think we can bank 20 days). We lose ununsed vacation time at the end of each year.
2 - about how often do you call in sick As needed. About 1X every few months
3 - what needs to be wrong with you do call in sick?!
I really don't 'ask' for the day off if I'm sick; I just send an email saying that I'll be out

1 - how many sick days do you get at your job: I get 12.5 a year, but they can carry over. So right now I have 20 sick days piled up
2 - about how often do you call in sick. I rarely call in sick.
3 - what needs to be wrong with you do call in sick?! The only times I've actually called in sick is when I have the flu. But I usually go in before it gets really bad so they know I'm actually really sick.

My benefits kinda stink!
We only get 4 sick days/year, and they 'accrue' - 1 every 3 months. It's a joke! We get 1 personal day and your vacation time gets to be more the longer you work here... once I hit my 2 year anniversary, I will get 2 weeks of vacation.
I don't call in sick very often - maybe twice or 3 times a year.
My colds almost ALWAYS turn into asthmatic bronchitis, so that is what I usually call in for. I have to go to the doctor and get meds and all. And when I am prone to that vertigo nonsense, I call in since I cannot even move without the room spinning! Those are really the only things I'd call in for.
