Totally random question..

Original post by CD516

How often do you wash your hair? MIL told me that she read somewhere that Jessica Simpson washes her hair 2-3 times a month!! I have always washed mine everyday but alot of people say thats not good either.

Re: Totally random question..

I wash my hair every day. It is so thin, and if I don't wash it it will get nasty greasy.

I almost flipped out when I didn't have hot water last week, I had to go into work w/out my hair being washed. It was so nasty, I almost called out sick . :(

Re: Totally random question..

i wash my hair everyday...i know i know - it's bade..but i have too.first because it's super fine & wimpy..so if it's not blowdried & styled it looks horrendous..it's flat to my head & stringy..also super oily. I turn into a grease ball overnight! I've heard the random 'well that's because u wash ur hair everyday' which could very well be part of it - but i really don't think it's the whole reason why... My mom's hair is the same way, and my hair has been this way since i'm little. it just sux lol.

they say every other day is good for your hair...but i've tried and can not. Days like today when i'm just home it's fine & i'll just leave it..but if i'm going somewhere it needs to be washed. I have friends that have VERY thick hair and can go a full week without washing...i envy them! lol.

I have to every day bc my hair is jet black and looks so oily if I dont...plus although I have a lot of it it's fine so it looks limp...

Re: Totally random question..

not a good idea to wash it every day.

I wash it 3 x on weekdays .
If I go out on a wknd I will wash - other than that I try not to.

I used to dry clean the hair from oil build up with baby powder - than at some point I read the talc will down the line could possibly give you cancer.

So now I use a product called Cake.

The best part is your hair doesn't appear as gray as when I used the baby powder on the blonde b/c it is a tinted goldish color that smells delish

Brunettes it works great on you too!

I used to wash my hair everyday but I stopped. I have really thin flat hair so it just made it worse.

Come to think of it I dont know why I ever did it everyday. I do it every other day. I dont have oily hair so it works I could even push it for 3 but I just dont feel right about it

that's really cool, I will look into that. I hate having to worry about washing my hair everyday, but I just hate how oily it gets if I don't and I know that it's probably b/c I wash it everyday lol

I did try Redken 4th avenue shampoos/conditioners and they worked when I blew my hair out, for like 2 days I wouldn't have to wash, but then that didn't work anymore. I will look into this! TY1

I hope you read what I wrote about the long term damage it can cause.
There is another alternative listed as I posted.

2-3 times a week. I have very thick, dry, coarse hair so too often is not good for me b/c I have to blow dry it.

ETA: however in the summer I wash it every day b/c I don't actually dry my hair in the summer.

Re: Totally random question..

I do the same as Jessica. I wash it every 7-10 days. It sounds gross but my hair doesnt get oily at all. Maybe around the 7-10th day it will start to get weird but it lasts really long whether straight or curly. It used to be really dry back when I would wash it every day and then I stopped. Now I get compliments on hair all the time about how healthy it looks.
Jen, I need to get that cake stuff!

Every other day in the winter. I have seriously dry skin and I can't handle everyday washing.

i wash every other day in winter, but every day in the summer. between my hair being dry in the winter and having to blow dry it i have gotten lazy and doing every other day.

Re: Totally random question..

everyday! I know it can be damaging for certain hair types, but my hair is kind of fine and gets oily quickly, so I need to wash it every morning, otherwise I will just feel gross all day. But I feel like my hair is still very healthy even though I wash it so much. My hairstylist always comments on how healthy it is, so unless it starts to get dried out or damaged, I will continue to wash it everyday. It is kind of a PITA though having to go through the routine of washing and drying it everyday. Sometimes I wish I had the kind of hair that could go 2 or 3 days without getting washed!
