Traffic Violations and Tickets

Traffic Violations and Tickets

I just went to court last week for a speeding ticket from 1999. At the time, I couldn't find my insurance card in my glove compartment so I got 2 tickets. They knocked my speeding ticket down to opening car door without caution and paid $150 and no points. Then they said, I had until 8-24 to show proof of insurance and that ticket would be dismissed.

I just received ANOTHER court appearance letter in the mail regarding another ticket a month after that other one in 99, which I sincerely do not remember, and it's for the same thing....driving without insurance and the court date says 8-24. I can't make that date, my DH and I will be in Lake George. Can I reschedule the court date? Can I just show proof of insurance for both tickets when I go for the first one before then?

Sorry so long, anybody???

I already paid my fine of $150 when I was there, they told me to show proof of insurance from the time I got my ticket back in 99. I have to reschedule the court date they told me to come in again regarding a ticket for no insurance a month after the speeding ticket I just paid.

It's so damn confusing. If I have to show proof of insurance for a ticket in Oct 99 before 8-24, don't you think I can get proof for Nov 99 and just kill two birds with one stone, and not even have to show up on Aug 24. I wonder if all tickets have to be taken care of separately.

You can call and move it. I got a court appearence from a ticket I got a long time ago and we had to go to SIL's wedding, I just called and they moved August.

I would definately call them & see what they say. I would think you could do both but then again, you never know with our courts!!!

I think you can call and change the date of your appearance.

P.S. I didn't even know that openning a car door without caution was a violation!

You can definitely reschedule the court date BUT and this is a BIG BUT...Make sure you document who you talked to, when, etc. I rescheduled a court date for a speeding ticket that I had upstate and shortly after rec'd a 'suspension notice - failure to appear in court'... I had to send all this documentation and speak to the Judge over the phone to straighten it all out.

Regarding showing proof of insurance for both...I don't think you'll be able to do that, but it's worth a try.

Good luck!

Like the ladies say, you can try to reschedule

But just so you know.. unless they are very willing to be nice, they may not accept proof of insurance for both dates just once.

You need to have proof that on the acutal date of the ticket you had insurance. It's too easy these days for people to let their insurance drop.

I usually have to type up a letter for my insured's stating that on such-n-such date my insured was covered.

Good Luck

ETA: Unless you can get something showing you have coverage from X date to X date with 'no lapse in coverage' That might help but they still may not let you resolve both issues at once.

OMG.

I don't want to scare you, but I had a 2 year battle because of the same thing - getting a ticket for 'no insurance card' which turned into 'driving without insurance'. I even had my license suspended and revoked. It took 2 years, a lawyer, and a personal favor called in to Dennis Dillon to fix it.

Do yourself a favor and jump the gun. Get in touch with either your broker or the insurance company directly and get an official letter from them on original company letterhead that on X date, you were insured.

It was the second thing that they asked me for in a long line of requests. The lawyer and all that paperwork came later. Definitely document everything, although talking to those people behind the counter is next to useless. They told me something different every time I went in there.

I wish you the best of luck, sincerely. And I hope this doesn't turn into a nightmare for you.

Thank you ladies!

I actually was able to get letters for proof of insurance for both dates! And I rescheduled with no problem. The lady at the court told me to just come in next week (as did the judge) to show proof of insurance and take it from there to even see if I need to show up once again for a date that is not more than 3 weeks from the other date.

I appreciate all your responses.
