Would you travel 1 1/2 hours each way for a shower for someone you are not close with?
This person came to mine so I feel like I should considering I know how exciting it is (either way I am sending a gift) and DH is reallly pushing me to go
I am not close with this person and the only person I will be there with is MIL. Its DH's distant cousin's fiance. We see them once a year at family functions if that. She did come to mine but mine was about 20 mins from her. I just dont know if I want to do 3 hrs of traveling I know Im probably being selfish but Im just being honest lol

I voted no. That's a really long way to go for a shower in my opinion. You guys are not very close. The only way I would consider going is if you and your MIL went together.

Don't go, don't feel guilty. If you were close to the bride, it would be worth it, but you hardly know her. As you said, you will be sending a gift. That'a what counts.

Now I feel a little better. DH is making a big stink about me going and how its the right thing to do yada yada. Not one single relative that lived far from me came to my shower and I totally understand. Im being a cry baby lol

Re: Traveling far for shower
if it was someone i had a relationship with then yes...but if you're really not that close with her - i'd vote no. I know she came to yours, but that was her choice. I would probably reply no, but send a gift.

DH can only make a stink if (1) he is going to drive 1-1/2 hours each way, and (2) wait for you during the shower.

Re: Traveling far for shower
I have travelled very far for showers. These people then didn't attend mine. I was really really annoyed.
In your case, since you are not close with them. Reply no, but send a gift.

Re: Traveling far for shower
I said yes. I had to travel up to Albany for my DH's cousin's wife's baby shower. It was on a Sunday and we didn't get home until about 10pm. She couldn't even come to our wedding because she didn't want to travel pregnant. I've met her 3 times (at her wedding, at SILs wedding, at her baby shower). It's the right thing to do.

Re: Traveling far for shower
i voted yes, but my mom made me go to everything as a kid, teenager, adult. If i had something else important to do, then i probaly wouldn't go. I went to a lot of events for my cousins wives, some who i met for the first time AT there shower. I don't think you should feel bad if you don't go, but personally I would go.

I said no, but then saw that it was a family member and that your mil will be there- maybe you should talk to her and see what she thinks- if she thinks its ok for you to skip- then I wouldnt go- and would just send a gift

I voted No, I think its a far drive and if you send a gift, then there is no reason for her to be upset

I like showers and since you'd be with someone (do you get along?) it might be nice... is there something else out by the shower that you guys can check out once out there, make a real fun day out of it?

I guess I'm confused why your DH cares so much. I thought he wanted you to go because MIL was going. I wouldn't worry if she doesn't want to go either. I agree it would be a nice gesture to send a gift if you don't go.
