Has anyone watched this new show. DH and I so far watched the first and second episodes and its really cool. I was a huge dorky Buffy fan so Im still looking for a vampire show to fill my Buffy void! This one is amazing.

Cool! Im glad IM not the only one. Now Ill have people to discuss it with! There are still a few things Id like to know like, in this vampire world how are you changed into one. I know on Buffy, they had to drain the person of most of their blood and then the person had to drink their blood. Dont know if its the same thing here. There was another question I had but cant really remember. Hopefully they'll answer them soon.

Re: True Blood on HBO
have you ever read anything by Laurel K Hamilton??
She has a really good series about living in a world where vampires and werewolves, etc. exist among the living.
i used to LOVE it - but as she got maybe into book 6 or 7 - they just became all about sex...and i'm not a prude, but it became too much....

No I didnt! I used to read Anne Rice books. Even the Sleeping Beauty series which was VERY sexual. It got too crazy for me too at one point. There are graphic sex scenes in this show too but I guess it comes with the whole vampire scene. Luckily it doesnt overpower the show though. I hope you like it!

I can definitely recommend any of the earlier Laurel K books - they were FANTASTIC and i miss them sometimes, but then I just remember where they wound up going...and i don't...
I don't mind graphic sex scenes at all - which is why the turn in the books upset me so much. It became more of 300 pages of the sex and maybe 100 pages of plot...that's just stupid.

Its so funny to me but everyone does relate sex to vampires. I ask dh why he loves vampires, and he gives reasons and one is that they are sexy lol. I get it since this is how movies portray them but still find it funny.

Re: True Blood on HBO
The first Anita Blake book is called Guilty Pleasures:
Anita Blake may be small and young, but vampires call her the Executioner. Anita is a necromancer and vampire hunter in a time when vampires are protected by law--as long as they don't get too nasty. Now someone's killing innocent vampires and Anita agrees--with a bit of vampiric arm-twisting--to help figure out who and why.
Trust is a luxury Anita can't afford when her allies aren't human. The city's most powerful vampire, Nikolaos, is 1,000 years old and looks like a 10-year-old girl. The second most powerful vampire, Jean-Claude, is interested in more than just Anita's professional talents, but the feisty necromancer isn't playing along--yet. This popular series has a wild energy and humor, and some very appealing characters--both dead and alive.
She's up to book 16 or something crazy like that. I stopped reading at book 14 i think...
Then she started a new series - with fairies and it was great, but went down the same frickin path....

Yup! Sex and vampires come hand in hand. I think it has to do with how they feed. They tilt the head back and suck on the neck. Vampires are also portrayed to be very lustful creatures. Which is understandable since they are soulless.

Re: True Blood on HBO
I watched the 'preview/making of' thing they had on, but I couldnt get into it. I think it's the Buffy thing too I figured they always rerun those HBO shows so I can always watch later.
I watched Moonlight (which was cancelled) but it wasnt like buffy at all either.

Its definitely not Buffy! But it is awesome. I love how they made a vampire race that humans are trying to learn to live with.

I think its because im romanian i just have different feelings lol. I always hated saying i was romanian and ppl asking me if i was from transylvania, or there were vampires also for me i grew up knowing the actual history of it so have a different view. The whole vampires thing came about bc of Vlad Tepes(his nickname and was Dracula and its what the ppl called him), he was an actual prince in romania and he actually did good for the country lol. When the turks were fighting with russia and invading us, it was Vlad that fought them and helped save the country, and even negotiated at first with them to keep them away. The whole s*cking blood thing was bc he was a bit crazy, and after he killed the turks he would cut their heads off and put them on stakes and line them up one after another. And rumor is that he would drink their blood when at home BUT from a cup, but who knows if that part is true. So in my country he was actually a hero since he helped stop invasions. Ive been to the church where he is buried, and everybody in romania when youre a kid goes to his castle as a school trip, so for my parents and rest of family and their friends it was just a regular thing and theyve all been to the castle in transylvania
So i cant get into the fantasy of it too much only bc i know too much of the real person too much hahaha.
ETA: he also helped the poor out alot and took from the rich to help them out.

That is very interesting, thanks for sharing. I didn't really get the whole vampire = sexy thing either. My coworkers and I read the Twilight series together and they went nuts over the vampires and I didn't really get it so much. Loved the series anyway though!

i do like vampire movies and stuff but not like REALLY into it like DH is. Sometimes when he talks its like 'ok you do know they DONT exist, right?' hahahahahaha. When i told him i went to where dracula was buried he was in such awe lol, and when my mom tells him about the castle hes amazed. We have to go within the next year to see my family there and he wants to go, so ill guess ill have to plan these things for him. Although transylvania is 3 hours from where my family lives but i guess it can be worth it. Its funny but i remember when the news reported a few years ago that prince william was the 14th cousin of dracula WELL the prince vlad tepes, and now i read that he actually goes to transylvania and they are trying to preserve it the way it is bc they do have others who are trying to make transylvania into an amusement type park, vampire themed of course. But Prince William started an organization to stop this and all i can say is thank god he did lol
