ttc question.....

ttc question.....

DH & I were sitting here tonight....& I was looking at pictures of my nephew and I said I cannot believe how big he is getting. So I turned looked at him and I said sometimes looking and being with him makes me want to be a mommy so bad....would you rather have a baby or go to Europe first?? sort of half kidding (thinking his answer would immediately be europe)......

He said I'd rather have a baby....I almost fainted lol So he said but I know you'd really like to go to Europe so I was thinking maybe we could go this fall and start TTC after it. My eyes filled up with tears & then complete and utter nervousness came over me.

Anyway....I feel lost...like I have no idea where to start. I mean...clearly I know how to concieve but I know that a lot more goes into it then just having sex but I feel clueless. & I know we have PLENTY of time but Please tell me I'm not alone on this....

& lastly...anyone recommend TTC books?(maybe I shouldn't write BOOK) but a helpful site? that I could just read....

ok, that's all

Re: OK...I have a question.....

awwww Devon, that's so sweet!!! I'm so happy for you guys!!!

I sooo understand your feelings. I think that's why I haven't hit the baby fever yet. I am SO scared to be a parent. I know I'm a great aunt and I'm good with kids...but being a parent is just HUUUUGE.

Instinct takes over! And you're a sweetheart and you LOOOVE your nephew....you'll be great!!!

Wish I had more advice for ya but I just wanted you to know I feel for ya!

That is such a sweet story! Congrats on making the decision! I have been lurking the TTC board on LIF. I've learned SO much. I had no idea making a baby had a whole science behind it. You'll probably be able to find all the info you need over there.

Re: ttc question.....

wow dev!!! yay!

honestly---you guys are both young...i don't think you need to go nuts reading books and stuff. sometimes i think we all overthink and analyze stuff---just try the au naturale way---and chart your cycles and figure around the middle when you might be ovulating and bam!

you can make an appt. with your OB/GYN and see about starting pre-natal vitamins and such....but i'm sure it might be easier than you think!

I have my ob/gyn appointment in March, so I was going to speak with her about it. I just think reading about it, not necessarily a huge book is helpful b/c even the charting thing is something I just need to know about.

DH is turning 30 in October....maybe he'll go out of his 20's with a bang

ok....kidding.....

Re: ttc question.....

so happy for you guys!! love it when heart -to- hearts with DH happen have no idea about the technicalities of TTC -- but probably the best thing is that you have an appt. in March with your doctor and it'll give you time to start taking pre-natal vitamins and figure out your cycles

DH keep talking about TTC -- we are so ready, we've been together for 6 years, it's time -- and the subject keeps coming up but we are in an apartment now and we really want a house first -- so before we spend $$ on anything lately we always say to eachother first ' a house and a baby' to remind ourselves and smile -- and a trip to Europe too

Awww that's so sweet! As for a book, I recommend Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It's a great book.

Taking Charge of Your Fertility is a fantastic book. Don't be scared by the thickness of it...it has lots of info...not just about getting PG [that's just part of it] but also how your body works. It really is an eye opener.

I think it's wise to start thinking several months ahead about TTC. DH and I started right after the HM [I'm in my 5th month trying] and it is not always as easy as everyone thinks. Everyone does not ovulate on day 14, not to mention there are so many other factors that may affect conception from actually happening.

I would definitely recommend getting the book and perusing it, also, check out the TTC Board of LIF- lots of good info and great girls on there too. I would go see your Ob/Gyn and have a consult. She/he will probably give you and exam, take blood and prescribe pre-natal vitamins that you can start now. But thinking about TTC is a bit scary, especially when you and DH are on the same page... And of course, you can always talk to your big sis! I'm sure she'll be thrilled!! Good luck on your journey! FM if you have any questions.

Dev, just wanted to say I'm very happy for you both and all the best. Definitely speak to your OB/GYN at your next appt. And when you do start TTC, remember to have fun & not obsess about it.

Re: ttc question.....

CONGRATS!!!!!!
We are staring to TTC in one month!! I suggest you go to your GYN or whomever you see and get a routine check up and start talking to them about TTC. They will start you on pre-natals. Ideally, you want to try and be on them at least a month or more to build up the folic acid stores in your body. Folic acid is extremely important in the first 8 weeks of fetal development when the neural tube is formed. Folic acid helps to prevent very serious and horrific neural tube defects. Most women who eat healthy diets rich in leafy greens and fortified cereals get enought folic acid but if you have the time to plan ahead its a good idea to start on the pre-natals. You may want to aslo start cutting down on your caffeine intake which studies show can lead to miscarriages and could cause problems TTC and on your alcohol intake. Different people have different views on how much of each you can have. I've cut caffeine and alcohol out completely and have so for hte last 2 months. THe best this is to make a decision with your doctor on what is best for you!

A good book I would recomend on TTC is Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. Also start posting on the TTC boards on LIFamilies the gils over there are great!!!

Happy Baby making!!!

Re: ttc question.....

awwwwwwww thats so sweet!!!!!!!

And congrats!!!

The only advice that I can give, is probally not to make yourself crazy with to much of the TTC stuff yet, go with the flow and see what happens first, then if things don't work out naturally, then maybe read more into it. Sometimes if you try to hard, it makes things stressful. But theres always the TTC boards over on LIF, I can't understand the lingo one bit!!!

good luck!!! and congrats!

I like that story! he is definetly good daddy material. keep him I think just browing the shelves helps if you're lookig for books on parenting. sometimes I find 'the best sellers' are blah to me. I like to find ones that I can relate to.

Maybe your OBGYN can reccomend books too.

COngrats!
