I'm super slammed today, but I wanted to make sure I popped on to ask my QOTD....
Since being married, I moved from living at home with my parents to DH's hometown. I moved a half hour away...and DH moved 4 blocks away! Luckily, since I had been with him for 5 years, his neighborhood became my second home, so the adjustment wasn't as huge as if we both moved together to a completely new town. But it's still an adjustment, because I find that they're completely different towns.
So my QOTD is what is one thing you love and one thing you hate about your hometown, and one thing you love and one thing you hate about the town you're living in now, if they're different?
What I loved about St. James was its convenience to everything. My house was located less than 10 minutes from the beach, 7 minutes from my college, 2 minutes from my part time job, 5 minutes from the mall and all major chain stores you could need like Borders and Target etc., had a small main street, was surrounded by towns that had lots of shopping and restaurants, a quick drive to Port Jeff, close to main roads to get places quick...it was just super convenient to live there. What I hated about it was that it was a small town where everybody got up in your business and knew everything, and there were a lot of yuppie types that thought they were a lot more affluent than they were and flaunted it, and it could be very snobby.
What I love about Dix Hills is that it's more centrally located on the Island, so it's not as big of a deal to go in to Nassau anymore. And I would be lying if I didn't say I kinda like seeing people's reactions when I say I live there, because it does have some kind of snob appeal too. What I HATE about it is that there is no business district. In order to do any of my shopping, depending on what it is I need, I have to go to either Deer Park, Huntington, East Northport, Commack, North Babylon, or Farmingdale. I can't decide on a whim that I want to buy a new book and run up to Border's and be back home in 10 minutes. I have to plan and structure my errands on the weekends because everything is so spread out. I also am not fond of my downtown main drag being DPA when I'm used to more of a small town Main Street culture.

My hometown is Woodbury. I love it cause it is my home and I grew up there practically my whole life. I know all the good restaurants and stores and there is GREAT shopping (although, expensive.) What I hate about Woodbury is that there are a lot of rich snobs. I went to Syosset HS and pretty much everyone had a brand new BMW or Range Rover the day they turned 16. You should have seen the student parking lot...it was ridiculous. I was the loser who walked to school everyday (I lived across the street from the school and didn't get my car until I was in college!)
I currently live in Manhattan. There is a TON to love about where I live now. The best restaurants, the best shopping, always something to do. Love that we are close to all my friends and everyone and everything is just a quick walk, subway or taxi away. It is also centrally located to both my parents house on Long Island and Jason's parents house upstate NY. It is easy to hop on a train and go to either place and get there within an hour. What I hate about Manhattan is how expensive it is to live here. Our rent is ridiculously expensive and so is grocery shopping, take out, eating out and shopping. But I never want to leave.

I haven't lived in my home town since before I left for college, which was 14 years ago... so I'm not sure if it's fair to compare that. The last 8 years, I lived in Brooklyn.
I miss NY and will miss it even more during baseball season, but I love being in the south. I love the weather and I love being with DH. Our home is great and spacious. Oh, and the best part... PARKING!!!!! 8 years of Alternate Side parking, first in Brooklyn Heights, then in Park Slope, was pure hell.
I enjoy driving to the grocery store now which I couldn't do before. I miss the food co-op and the great prices there, too. But mostly I love it here.

I grew up in New Hyde Park Loved the town growing up, always said i would live there all my life, have my kids go to nhp memorial and have the same teachers i had! lol but things have changed quite a bit and to me its not the same as it use to be!
Right now we are in Massapequa! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the area!!! soo much around, everything is closed to each other, the people are nice! when we first moved there we noticed that there was always stuff for the community! parks having concerts, fireworks! very family friendly and nice!! the only thing thats annoying is apparently a 30 min drive is too much for our family to want to come and visit!! i feel like we are always driving back to nhp for something! DH lived in jersey till he was 11, then floral park queens, and then floral park li...(so pretty much the same as nhp) rest of his family is still in jersey so yeah way too far for people to come and visit
We are soon to be living in Salisbury! closer to the family soo hopefully people will start visiting! not really sure what is around there, having really been around there that much! at least i know its a 5 min drive to the malls!! eisenhower park is 2 seconds away! we should be fine! over there!

I don't even know what my hometown is anymore! I lived in Malverne till I was 11 - then in Valley Stream until 18. Then we moved to Farmingdale. I then moved to Long Beach, then Jericho, then West Babylon. DH and I now live in East Islip.
I really miss living in Nassau County. I liked being so close to NYC and how it seemed so much easier to get to places. When I lived in Nassau I thought everything was 15 minutes away.
I lived in my apt in W Babylon for 10 years. I lvoed it there. I loved my apt complex and I loved that I could walk up to 7-11 or Petco or Marshalls or Bed Bath and Beyond and old Navy.
When DH and I were looking at houses, he didn't even want to consider Nassau though so we had to find a town in Suffolk we could both agree on.
We've been officially living in East Islip since we came back from the HM (mid-December) so far I love it - although I miss the restaurants in Babylon Village and I feel like we're a little too far out east.

I grew up in Throggs Neck in the Bronx and DH grew up in College Point, Queens....we both now live in Westchester County. I love our new area. There is always parking!!!!! Hooray, unlike in the city. My work commute is now 10 minutes instead of 30. And people are really nice up here, sometimes too nice. lol I miss some of the old stuff like the restaurants and my nail place and my hair lady but my mom still lives there and I can just drive the extra 15 minutes and still go to my usual places so its okay. In fact since we moved up north DH & I are always going into the city. We're strange.

My hometown is Bayville… I loved that it was a small town and everyone knew everyone (which could also be a bad thing when you got in trouble ) and that anywhere you were in Bayville is no more than a 5 min walk to the beach! I did NOT love how it’s so far away from any major road… it takes at least 20 mins to get to a parkway.
Right now we’re in Floral Park… we’ve been there a little over a year and soon we’ll be in Massapequa! The little town is great with lots of restaurants and bars and stuff… but I’m not used to being so close to Queens. We always end up going east to do things, so it’s just a little further west than I’d like to be.

I grew up in Brentwood until I was 14, then moved to Kentucky for a year, then moved to Seaford. I liked living in Seaford (after graduating) it was close to the parkways, close to the beach, just seemed very convenient to everything. The downside is it is very small and everyone knows everyone and your business, it can get a little annoying.
Now I live in West Hempstead with DH, I'm still getting used to it. I've lived here for a year and I still feel like I don't know my way around. The parkways are not near us and most of my friends and family are at least 30 mins away. And when I tell people where we live, they always think Hempstead and get the wrong idea. But I do love that we have our own house to ourselves, that is the best feeling ever

I grew up in Bayside, Queens. I Really love it there- it is close to the city and Nassau county. Things are closer together and I was not far from the LIRR. DH and I live on City Island in the Bronx. It is like living in a small town in the city. It is close to the water and the park and I love that...BUT it gets really crowed on Friday and Saturday nights during the summer. I know the people visiting keep the businesses alive but sometimes it is really annoying...especially when you just want to get home and relax. I hate the cars with their loud music and the stupid guys on motorcycles not to mention the trash left behind on Monday mornings!! I have found some great shopping nearby but most things require getting in the car and driving. I still have not found a good place to get my eyebrows threaded!

Re: Tuesday QOTD
I grew up in Northport and DH grew up in Shirley. We now live in Middle Island. I miss Northport SO much. It was such a cute town. I loved having Main Street and the harbor to go and hang out and relax by. It was much closer to everything than Middle Island. I don't really love Middle Island at all. There is no 'town' and it doesn't feel homey. BUT it was reasonably priced and we wanted to buy s here we are! My parents live close by (well, for now.) and DHs are only about 15 minutes from us so it works1

Re: Tuesday QOTD
My hometown is Massapequa, NY. I love that most of my family wasn't very far. I loved the options for take-out so less cooking. Lol. Pizza, GTO, All-American. Since moving out of state I miss these so much. I love that all my friends are still close to the area. I also loved being so close to the beach, and living near the water. Those I defin miss living in a place where the beach is a few hours away. I hated that it wasn't diverse at all. My entire school district was all white, and mostly Italian like me, or Jewish. I would have liked to grow up with a little more diversity. I also could live without the 'Jersey Shore' factor if you KWIM. Lol. Currently I live in Northern VA, right outside of D.C. I love being 10 mins from the city, and having so much culture at my fingertips. There is so much to do around here. I love the aspects of city living like being able to walk to stores, and open air markets on the weekends, live music, art, etc.. All the things that come w/ city living. The diversity is great too. I hate not being able to get a decent bagel or slice of pizza. Some ppl say some are better than others but nothing is the same as NY. I think this is worse being pregnant, and dying for real pizza. We always take bagels home from NY. I also hate being so far from family & friends.

i grew up in bayshore and i loved the area when i was living there because it was close to all of my friends at the time, but i haven't lived there for a while.
now i live in melville. i LOVE the area. when we move out of our apartment we are hoping to stay in the area. we live on the south service road of the expressway up a LONG driveway and don't really have close 'neighbors'. we LOVE our apartment and the atmosphere and i really want to have the same feel when we buy a house.

Re: Tuesday QOTD
My hometown is Nesconset-I haven't lived there in 8 years...
What I loved about it is the sense of familiarity and safeness of the neighborhood.
What I disliked about it was that it was too far from the city-I'm a city girl at heart..
The town I'm living in now?? Rockaway Beach NY (Queens)
What I love about it is that it's closer to the city.
What I dislike about it is the people-there's a lot of shady people around, and I always feel like I'm on guard.
It's so funny I couldn't wait to leave Long Island, but now that I'm all grown up, all I want to do is go back.
So I think we're going to look for a house in Western Nassau County (Maybe Rockville Center) which would combine the best of both worlds.

I grew up in Massapequa. One thing I loved was that there was SO much to do, and everything was in walking distance (which mattered big time before the days of driving, haha). I was really miserable living there though because it wasn't diverse at all. Most (not all) of Massapequa is shielding diversity not only in race but also in religion and socioeconomic status. I always felt very overwhelmed living there since my mom was a single parent and did not make that much. My dad lives in NYC so I lived there on weekends and seeing a very busy city def. opened up my perspective.
However, the town I lived in now makes Massapequa look REALLY diverse. I now live in Ohio in a town where there are people protesting with picket signs such as 'You will go to H ell if you are not Christian' on a weekly basis. Very inviting to me and my Jewish DH.
