ugh need help - car related- sort of

ugh need help - car related- sort of

so when I picked up my car they offered to install an alarm. They offered a pretty good price so I said ok, well DH did, he put whatever money we had to pay on his credit card. I'm supposed to take my car in tomorrow and I thought about it and would rather not get the alarm, I just don't think I need it. We called to cancel and they said we can't and that it's already been paid for and we signed a contract. Now IMO the contract was for the lease, NOT the alarm. I really think these people are taking advantage. What can I do?? Oh and a little extra info, my mom says a contract is able to be cancelled within 3 days it is signed? I don't know if this is true or not.

Call and get the manager on the phone NOW! I know you can cancel the sale of a car up to three days so I dont' know why this would be different.

We had to cancel the contract to buy a car because we realized the next day that the guy was completely screwing us over. Anyway I had insisted the down payment be put on my CC and I am so glad I did it this way. We had to call there daily and go a few times before they finally put the money back on my card but it was done.

Fight them on it!

hmmm I don't know about the 3 days rule, but if they didn't perform a servie to the car, I would dispute it and tell them that you want it cancelled.

Did you speak to a manager???? What exactly does the contract state?

I'm trying, they said to call back in 20 minutes. It's the same thing they said to DH, he tried calling before me

I also want to throw this out there..but Nissan trys to screw you. They try to get any money they can. A few months ago I was interested in buying the altima coupe and I had put in a purchase but the next day I cancelled (we felt like we were being BS'ed with and I didn't like the price or the guy selling the car) anyway in the contract it said we can call and cancel the purchase with no obligation within 48 hours I think. Well needless to say they never refunded my money, like it said they would in the contract, and I fought to get it back..

I have a Nissan and they aren't the only ones that do this!

If they didn't perform the service they have to refund you. What does it say on your receipt for the alarm? If they refuse to refund you, call your CC and tell them the service was never completed and not to stop the charge.

I'm sure they're not! Lots of car dealerships are scammers! You have to be careful!

I WIN!!! They're not giving me my money back but they're putting in the backup sensor for just the cost of the back up sensor ($60) which is fine by me!! Yay!

Glad you're getting something better. They will do anything and everything instead of giving a refund. If it was me I would have threatened to return the car!

I actually worked at a dealer for over 6 years and have left recently, but the only thing I can tell you about threatening to return it, once you have your plates on that car and you drive it over the curb, typically the dealer wont take the car back, if you drop it off, they will just have it towed off the lot at your own expense.. just be careful, most of them can be receptive, its just alot of peoples defenses go up when people believe 'all dealers are alike'... there are alot of good people out there...

ETA: I have NEVER seen them take a car back once a customer has taken it off the lot, the paperwork gets fedexed next day to the banks.
