Ugh - post wedding headache - unbelievable!!! LONG vent
ETA: LOL, this took me FOREVER to type out with one hand, so someone please read it
So one of our GM returned his tux late to the tux rental place .... I'm talking THREE WEEKS late! While we were on our honeymoon, the tux place charged my DH $125 and we were like So we called and they told us that it was for the late fees for the GM's late tux and that the GM's CC had been declined, so they were charging DH's card per the contract.
Fine. I was not happy about that (that we were getting charged and had to have our GM pay us back) but he ended up giving DH the money so all cool, right?
Yeah up until a few days ago when DH sees a $175 charge on his credit card from the tux place. UMMMMM more than 6 months after the wedding. So he calls and yep, its for late charges on the same tux. Turns out, the total late charges were $500!!!!!!!! I believe they charge $25 per day. Since they couldn't get the $500 approved on his card ,they initially split it up into smaller increments and they haven't been able to charge his card since then, so they put it on DH's card.
So, first off I'm kinda annoyed that they didn't call us first to let us know what's going on before they charged DH's card. Seems like common courtesy. And there's still a $200 balance - so what, were they just going to charge that to us too without saying anything? Also, almost ALL of the guys' tuxes lost their jacket button on the day of the wedding!!!! And these were not cheap rentals. When we complained about it after the wedding, we got the major run around and with everything going on I just left it as is. Now they're charging us without even letting us know.
Secondly, DH calls his friend and tells him about the charge, asks him to give the tux place a call and get this resolved asap. His friend was upset about the whole thing and starts to insist that the tux place send over the contract where it shows that they can charge DH for any of the GM's lateness or whatever. I'm like, W T F does that have to do with anything???? YOU RETURNED IT LATE and you KNEW there was a $25 fee per day!!! You know you owe this money, just call them up, get it resolved and that's that. Ugh!!!
This is just so freaking stupid to me. Why should DH and I still have to deal with this - I feel like, as a good friend, he should just get it resolved with them or make an arrangement with them so we can be out of it.

WOW...simply put.
I cannot believe that they would charge DH without a call, letting him know. I agree with you - it would seem like a courtesy call....mind you, a 'you're screwed' courtesy call....but one just the same.
Has the GM told DH that he plans to pay him back???

OMG that is horrible. For starters it is messed up that the place is charging your DH for something that he is not responsible for. If the GM's cc did not go through they should contact HIM not take it our of your account. $500!!!!!!!1 That is a ridiculous amount of money to have to pay for late fees GM- That was really irresponsible of him but you know what things happen. Now I feel it is his responsibility to handle things accordingly and correct this situation.
Call the place and tell them you are not authorizing them to charge anything else on your card and if it continues let your cc company know about these charges.

Yesi, call your credit card company RIGHT AWAY and document this incident. You can refute the charges, they'll make you fax a statement and circle the charge on your bill. I've done it in the past and for something this obvious they should have your back.... Its a lousy business practice, and they should know better. Your cc company should refund the money to your account.

I'm just awed that the GM would take 3 weeks to return a tux ! Hope this guy has the balls to resolve the matter himself instead of relying on you two to do it. Call the cc company and dispute the charge with them. Might buy you guys some time until the GM gives you the rest of the cash. Dope could have bout himself a really nice suit for $500 instead of racking up late charges.
The return policy is stated on the ticket that gets written up. I made sure of that when we did the tuxes. Mike had to put up a credit card as a 'guarantee' for late returns or damaged rentals, but I used my card since I also paid for my Dad's rental.

wow what a headache!
I would dispute the charges! Youre not responsible for paying for your GM's late tux fees, hes the one who hsould be dealing with this headache not the both of you. If you deny the charges then the tuxedo rental place has no choice but to contact the GM, which they shouldve done in the first place imo, to notfy him that his card was declined.
I hope this all gets resolved...but honestly this should not have ever become your problem, let the GM deal with it.

See, he's claiming that they shouldn't have charged DH and that's why he wants to see the contract where it states that DH would be charged if anything happened with the other guys' tuxes/payments etc. I'm like, well if your card is denied, you KNOW they want to get their money and we signed saying we'd guarantee bla bla. I feel like he should just resolve it with them and that's that. Cut out all the other crap about 'being upset' they charged us.

I would LOVE to dispute the charges, but alas I do believe when we signed our contract it stated that we'd be the guarantee in the event there were charges etc. (like in this case where the GM's cc is being declined, we'd be charged). SUCH a headache!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He 'couldn't make it out there'... He paid us the first $125 that was charged to DH so I assume he'll pay the new $175 charge to us - the question is when. And it ***** to have to ask for money, you know?

Well, if he knows it was charged, you shouldn't have to ask for it- but I know what you mean that's a whole 'nother story! Can he also go pay the remaining $200 balance to the tuxedo place so that it never has to get charged to your card?

wow. the business handled that incredibly poorly. its a little late to still be dealing with this!!!! why wait that many months and charge you again out of the blue? why not tell you the full charge was 500 back when you spoke with them? why couldnt the tux place call YOUR FRIEND directly and deal with him, since its his issue? and charging w/ no phone call? id be pisssed. i dont blame you. and DH's friend needs to man up and take care of this himself. neither of you need to deal with this!!
sorry what a pain!

DITTO!!!! Get on this guy's case like NOW yesi. This is his issue not yours and he will just have to find the money somewhere because this is ridiulous but you're right in that they came after you because they couldnt find him. Same happened to my In-laws with Pete's anceled membership. DOPES LOST our number so set the claims department on his poor parents.
We handled it ourselves, paid whatever charges, yelled alot and it was done. He needs to man up. I award himThursdays Biggest DOPE award.
Take a breath. it will work out.

Hi Hon, I think you still have an opportunity to dispute them -- i.e., they billed you 6 MONTHS AFTER the event, that's dirty pool. ALSO they never tried to contact the GM who used the tux - dirty pool #2. Effectively they're trying to make you their collections agent....

Not mean at all. I update dope to schmuck. Yeah, a card would have been nice.
