Ugly Work Clothes

Original post by MeNBobs

My mom sometimes picks up shirts and others gifts for me when she is out shopping. Usually she does a good job but sometimes she must think I am 87 years old. Today I am wearing a shirt that she told me looked great on me I think it looks like something stolen from a senior citizen's closet.

I know I am very picky so maybe it's not that bad. A girl in the office told me she liked it (I think it was out of sympathy she felt bad for me being dressed like a granny .)

Even though I hate the shirt I kept it I just figured it was one less thing I had to buy. I hate spending money on clothes for work. Plus I guess it's not that bad if it's getting compliments.

Do you ever wear things you hate just because you have them? I think I feel this way about my whole shirt wardrobe .

I wish I could blame my mother for my ugly work clothes, but I had to stop that years ago; I told her if she buys me one more jacket with a peplum i'm going to burn it right in front of her. She's over it now.

Unfortunately I have made many fashion mistakes, the typical scenario is: buy something because its a 'great deal'. 5 months later, there it sits in my closet, tags still attached, but past the return/exchange window. Taunting me by its very presence.

Recently I did a very thorough clean out of the closet. Guess what, it turns out I DO have enough closet space, ain't that a kick in the head?

But I'm kind of fussy about work clothes, I need to be comfortable, but if I have to work, then I want to look cute doing so too. To have to work and wear uglies is just adding insult to injury IMHO. And Cat, never underestimate the power of the peep toe pump, which I know you love so; it can TOTALLY distract the viewer from an ugly blouse!!

AMEN! You had on really cute shoes the day of the NYC GTG.

Re: Ugly Work Clothes

my stepmother buys me the UGLIEST things, and NEVER gives a receipt!!!!! So I will wear the outfit once in front of her (usually to go to dinner at her house) then I hold onto it for a year, then I give it to charity.

I am in ugly work clothes everyday!!! Jeans and a t-shirt, for the summer; shorts that come down to my knees (not flattering on me!) and a collared shirt.

Re: Ugly Work Clothes

I have ugly work clothes that turn into stained work clothes so I dont have to feel guilty about not wearing them
