I know there are a bunch of us out there who are either unemployed or have an unemployed spouse.
How do you deal with house cleaning? Does the person who is unemployed get stuck with it all?
It has felt like the past month I have been doing most of the cleaning and DH expects that I do it!!! I know that I am home all day, but I a good majority or my day is spent sending resumes, following up on resumes or searching for job opportunities. Yes, I spend time here on LIW, but I did that at work too
If you are the wife of an unemployed husband, do you expect him to do everything in the house?
I am starting to feel like I am a housewife and I am not!!

Re: Unemployed newlyweds
When my husband has been unemployed, I have total expected him to pull more weight around the house -- cleaning, laundry, shopping, cooking.

When I was first laid off, I would clean everyday. NOt anymore! I didn't want to spend every single day cleaning. DH does help out but I do most of the cleaning.

Re: Unemployed newlyweds
I was unemployed for a little over a month and I did a LOT more cleaning, but I was home all day and had nothing better to do, so I really didn't mind all that much. If I had a lazy day (or two ) and didn't get any cleaning done, DH was always willing to lend a hand. Now that I'm working, we split up the chores pretty evenly. He's home in the mornings and he cleans a lot then and I'm home in the evening and I clean a lot then. It works out pretty well.

Re: Unemployed newlyweds
monday was my first day of unemployment... when we were both working it was expected that we split the chores, then it became really bad at my job and my dh was doing alot of my chores along with his.. Now that i have been unemployed I have been job searching the internet and sending my resume and i am doing real estate school, which are 9-530 certain days... so if its not the day im in real estate school then I will do more chores around the house, if its a school day then I will just do the regular chores we split.

If my husband were unemployed, I would definitely expect him to do all the housework. And if I were unemployed, I would expect that I do the same.
No one likes to do housework but I think it makes sense that the person with the most time do most of it.
Thats how it would work in my house at least.
its funny, since being unemployeed I asked my dh to show me how to do the laundry in the machine since now im home, and he tells me that its his job and wont give it up
