Update on NYC GTG - Thursday

Original post by Sonicstef

Just called the restaurant to warn them that a swarm of us are going to be descending come Thursday

They are going to give us the back room so thats good. There will be a few tables of 12 but we can get up and mingle, etc.. easier since we have the room to ourselves.

There is a prix fixe menu for $25+tip+tax that includes soup or salad/main course/dessert/coffee or tea. I think im going to get that just so its easier when the check comes - but you can order off the menu if you prefer.

(All I ask is that everyone keep track of what they have ordered and make sure you pay for it plus tax and tip. I hate when I go out and the $$ comes up short.)

Is that okay for everyone?

Re: Update on NYC GTG - Thursday

Had to hop in on this thread...

I thought I was the only one with this pet peeve!

I had several similar situations where my coworkers had appetizers, beers, shots, sushi, huge dinner, the works, and a few of us had limited items so that we would stay within what we wanted to spend, and at the end of the nite they divided it up and said $54 per person. Needless to say I NEVER went along. In each case, I gave what covered my meal, tax and a nice tip. What would someone who just pigged out and got drunk say to that ??
Actually the girl that was collecting goes 'Anna this is $28 dollars' and I go 'Yep, that should cover it' and gave her a 'smile'. =)

I wasnt paying $54 for a $22 meal ! NOPE
and just to think that people would let that happen FULLY KNOWING WELL that they just ordered $70 worth of crap!

That really is NEEERRRRRVVVEEEE for people to do that ! When John and I go out to eat with friends, he likes to get the expensive steak dishes so he ALWAYSSSS puts a significant amount more to cover what he ordered. What's fair is fair !

Oh I can ramble on with more stories but you get the idea !

Have fun on Thursday everyone !!

Wow- guess it happens to the best of us.
I say, unless you preface everything by saying you're going Dutch, don't expect to split the bill evenly & cover your own meal! I would NEVER expect someone to have to carry me! If anything, I always give a little extra, so no one can say anything!!! I can't get over how RUDE people can be!

Actually...my issue is not with spliting a bill evenly. I mean, Ive been there too but that is not such a big deal for me.

The really annoying this is when Im out with a bunch of people for dinner and drinks, etc.. and the bill comes to $X dollars. So everyone is on the honor system to throw in an appopriate amount. If Im with a bunch of guys, we usually have double what we need b/c they all put too much. But women figure out exactly how much their food costs down to the nickel and then put that in - forgetting that there is tax and tip to contend with. (Not to mention women who tip 5% which just drives me nuts but thats another issue). Anyway, i collect all the money and I KNOW I have put way more than my fair share, and we are still way short. Of course no one knows how much everyone put in b/c it was on the honor system and everyone ordered something different. So usually I and a few girls who I already know put more than enough in end up coughing up more $$ so we dont stiff the waiter.

That drives me crazy. If you go out, expect to pay for what you ate, what you drank plus tax and a nice tip (especially for women who order the salad with dressing on the side without walnuts and a diet coke with lime, not lemon and god knows what other tasks to make sure the waiter is earning that 15%)

off the soapbox now

LMAO STef on that last paragraph !!! LOLLL

I HATE when I happen to be sitting where the waiter puts the check and I start hearing screams of 'How much do I owe ?' I have NEVER ordered something (nevermind several items) NOT knowing how much they were. I always try to get a good estimate on how much i'm spending on dinner. actually as Im ordering I guesstimate how much to put in, including tax and tip.

If I knew ahead of time that we'd be splitting the bil evenly, dont you think I would have ordered the fancy shmancy stuff on the menu with a few appetizers, just to sample them, and a few drinks, what the heck...

A few weeks ago I went out with a few gals I've recently met, and one girl was a very materialistic type person, always talking about what she owned and what her hubby paid for things. As we ordered dinner, she only ordered a coffee. We were at a place called Dave&Busters (very similar to Jillians - a 'nice' bar/arcarde/restaurant) and she had to leave early and she goes 'oh let me leave money for my coffee'. Well I would have left a $4-5 for that coffee. Assuming it would be like $2 at a place like that and leaving some tip so others dont have to worry about it for you (like Stef said also ). Well she gets out her wallet and goes 'A Dollar should cover it' and throws a dollar on the table. My face went and she goes 'No? you dont think a dollar would cover it ?'
and I just said ' ' and another girl jumps in and goes 'for a coffee? you should leave at LEAST $3' and miss Prissy goes 'well I only have a $20 and a $50' and someone else goes 'oh thats ok, we got it'...
and she said 'OK Thanks' and left... They were SOOO annoyed.

That annoyed me too, just the fact that she was SOOO ignorant, and had 'sooo much money' and here she is looking extremely pathetic.

Re: Update on NYC GTG - Thursday

Stef, I am the girl asking the waiter to change recipes around 50% of the time!!! Dressing on the side, diet coke no ice with lemon, substitute field greens for romaine lettuce, potatoes instead of rice, etc!!!

I made the reservation in my name. Just ask for Stefanie, party of 28!

Alina: I do the same thing...but I am an excellent tipper so waiters dont mind.
