use or free by???

so i bought some butternut squash ravioli in the 'fresh' pasta section

said use or freeze by 1/21....still in the fridge

what do i do? try to cook/taste it? or just toss it?

...if it were CHEESE id toss it...but its squash, right?

oh tough one for me bc I'm very conservative with use by dates. hmmm does it look funky? fresh pasta will usually show signs of mold. Its kinda really past the use by date. My nose is all wrinkled up as I think about this - I say toss it.

visible mold? no, it still looks fresh....

okay - well then maybe give it a whirl!

I know my mom just had the same scenario but the pasta showed like white mold on it so it was obviously tossed.

butternut squash ravioli usually has cream in it... but try it. if it tastes or smells funny cooked... toss it

Ewa throw it out. I threw out an entire heft bag f expired and almost expired stuff in our fridge. I'm real careful with that.

okay, so i cooked them. they looked fine. i tasted one. tasted fine. DH isnt home and i already ate by the time i saw the expiration date, so i put them in tupperware.

ill probably take it for lunch tomorrow. lets see how long i live

sometimes expiration dates are overly cautious though. like eggs for example. you can tell if an egg is bad by putting it in water and seeing if it floats. and, often they are fine past the expiration date.

I won't eat anything that's a day or 2 b4 the exp date. Te few times I needed to use milk it, it was chunky and I still had a few days left. Blehhh

I throw anything out as soon as it passses its' expiration date. I probably waste some food this way but I'm paranoid!!
