Vacation

DH and i are trying to plan a vacation most likely for December of 2011.

Has anyone been to Panana, Costa Rica, Chile or Brazil?

Re: Vacation

I definitely need warmth, and the ability to have a few days pool/beach-side doing nothing but soaking the sun. But DH needs some stimulus or will be miserable, so definitely need a little activity.

So i guess both....

Re: Vacation

I've been to Chile!!!

Santiago is a wonderfully European-like city and Valparaiso is like the Hamptons of Chile! My friend and I rented a car and drove the coast! We had an awesome time but we were so young (21) that I wish I could do it again...with DH this time obvi....

I haven't been to Costa Rica but I always hear AMAZING things!!! And it sounds like exactly what you're looking for in terms of beachy/poolside relaxation and activties....you can go ziplining and hike to see hot springs!

Re: Vacation

okay, personally, i would not recommend brazil. unless you are going w a group. safety is a big concern. its beautiful, but in rio there is definitely the good and bad areas. and there is lots of crime.

when i went, my bff was going on business, so we were hooked up. my coworker went a few years back with his gf and he said he felt unsafe.

i would love to go back to panama and costa rica! costa rica has different parts (volcanos, rainforest, beach), so i think you should look into that. when i was looking for HM i was considering 2 wks in costa rica and a TA gave me useful info. i would post something on the vendor board to see what you get

how many days is your vacation? do you def. want to go to another country? cuz there are some awesome spots here too

Thank you thank you!!!!
We are leaning towards Coasta Rica and you are definitely swaying that decision.
Safety is a obviously a huge concern too.

I will check out VHV and see if they can send me any information.

We definitely want to leave the country. We''re thinking about 8-10 day trip. We have been talking about a mini vacay to LA, DC, or Chicago for a long weekend.

Re: Vacation

I heard costa rica is AMAZING!! We were looking into it for our honeymoon instead of hawaii. But 1. We were going in rainy season and many roads aren't paved 2. it was actually coming out to be more $ then hawaii on airfare and hotels.

Re: Vacation

we're still debating between costa rica or peru for may, so i might be able to help.

OR you should just move your vacay to may and come with!

Re: Vacation

not sure if you like cruises, but one way to see a lot of spots is to take a eastern or western carib. cruise from FL. they are usually 7 days.

I've never been on a cruise before! I have no idea if I am a 'cruise person'. What if I get seasick and i am miserable!?

I briefly looked into a mediteranian cruise and then gave up b/c I had no idea what the good boats are and stuff.

Re: Vacation

costa rica is a great compromise of beachy/adventurous trips

also, argentina in the winter months here is summer there and its supposedly amazing. i havent been yet but DH's family is argentinean and they have a place in buenos aires and whenever they go they also spend like 5 days at a beach resort-ish place, if you're at all interested FM me i can try to get more details.
