Vacation recap

Well I was away for a week for our last 'alone' vacation before baby comes. I am sure at some point in the future we can do this again, but it will be a while so we really wanted to enjoy this time together.
We went to CA for a friend's wedding. Scott was in the wedding party. I must say that the trip was harder on me than I had hoped and that with the compressed nerve issues it was just not as enjoyable. But in the end, I am glad I went because I really didn't want to miss the wedding.
We flew first-class so that helped A LOT. But I had to use the bathroom every 15 minutes or so- I am not lying here- so I felt like an a$$. I kept taking a drink and running to the bathroom. People must have thought I was nuts or something. Anyway, we had dinner with my aunt/uncle the first night and that was really nice. we don't see them often.
The next day we drove for almost 6 hours to the wedding area- about an hour or so outside of Santa Barbara. Very beautiful coastline, of course. Here I am in all my pregnancy glory near our hotel.


Now some of you may know that I have a very real fear of sharks. I have never been attacked- Thank God- but I do not go into the water at all, hate boats of all kinds and honestly, am not a beach person. I don't tan well and feel like a whale in a bathing suit, but that isn't why I really dislike the beach. I am just 100% plain afraid of being in the water with a very large fish that can eat me in 3 bites- maybe less.
Anyway 2 days before we get to our beach front hotel a women is killed by a great white shark. It is the 1st attack in 10 years and it happens the week I am arriving . It happened right across from the hotel! We had to be given a warning notice when we checked in. Needless to say I didn't really go on the beach at all. Here I am on a local Pier (another beach area though) where the sea lions play on the docks. They were super cute and you could hear them barking to each other. I needed my sunglasses on for the photo!

The wedding was on the casual side and the GMs all wore Hawiian shirts. Stef found this dress for me on oldnavy.com for $12.99!!! You cannot beat that.


I felt rather 'big' most of the trip too. And one women who worked at the hotel stopped me and asked when I was due. I told her 11/29 and that I was 26 weeks pregnant. She looks at me and says 'so you are having twins' I started to cry. I mean, if I were having twins that would be fine but it made me feel like a whale. and i have only gained 16 freakin pounds and I know that I am carrying high but I felt awful. Later that day I went back into the office and said to her 'What you said about the twins was RUDE and HURTFUL. Maybe you should think about how bad you could make a women feel' She was shocked and apologized over and over again, but I told her 'Listen, you need to think before you open your mouth. You made me feel awful and you have no right to make a pregnant women feel badly about her weight gain' and I walked out as she kept saying 'OMG. I am sooo sorry. I never meant to upset you'. But I was upset.

Anyway the wedding was nice and we are very happy for our friends. I was happy to come home to Beemer and my house and my LIW friends

that was very mean for that woman to say - glad to went back and confronted her. You look great though!!! Seriously, from the pictures you really do look amazing and very healthy!

Very scary about the shark attack That'd keep me out of the water too!

Michele...i was thinking about you when I heard of the shark attack....I know this doesn't make things better...but they think she was confused for a hurt seal...since she had on flippers, was swimming with them...and wasn't as fast...


I can't believe what that woman did...but I am proud that you went and told her...If it makes you feel better...John loves PG women...he always points them out and how great they look!!!

I hope that you could relax as best you could...and how nice was the first class!!???

I am glad that you were able to get away for a last 'alone' vacation. You are a trooper for going cross country with the pain you have been having.

And I have to say I hope that woman learned her lesson !!!!

I am sorry for what that woman said to you, but I am glad that you said something back to her. You are very sensitive about it.
Alot of people said the same thing to me when I was PG - I was only about 21 weeks, and some man told me that I look about 7 months. People have NO CLUE...but, I also think that people don't realize that a very petite woman who is only 5'1' tall has NO PLACE ELSE to put the baby....it is very hard for such a petite woman to carry small. Physically, I do not know how we would do it.

I am glad that you and Scott had a great time, and that you are home safe. The pic of the two of you at the wedding is gorgeous....what a nice memory.

ps - don't worry....sharks cannot eat you on the beach....I'm pretty sure you'd have to be in the deep water

I look at my own photos and I don't even recognize the person in them! I feel so different.

And most shark attacks happen in 3 feet of water This women was swimming with seal lions, wearing a scuba suit and of course, has zero instinct about a shark approaching. She was 75 yards off shore- which isn't very much at all and it is very rare for a great white to attack that close to shore. Other sharks such as bull sharks do, but usually not great whites.

Claud is so right. You are already so small, you are all belly now. Personally, I think that is exactly how a pregnant women should look. But you are clearly not fat...everything else on you is completely proportionate!

That shark attack is scary, DH and I didnt' go into beach water in Hawaii either, way too scary.

Don't let anyone make you feel bad about your pregnancy. Some people just don't know how hurtful their words are.

ETA ~ that people are insensitive. I am on the other end of the spectrum, and people always comment on how small I am, and how I need to EAT to have a healthy baby. Well, I DO eat, and I eat plenty!

I just shrug these people off as morons.
Don't give them a thought.

I think you look great too. A very beautiful and glowing pregnant woman. People are rude ... don't listen to most of them.

Incidentally, a Great White can attack that close to shore. I've seen it on the Discovery Channel - Shark Week is one of my favorite things to watch every year. I know - I'm a dork!
