VEGAS-ladies who been there, need more help

Original post by PeteysBride

Ok so i looked up soem old posts and found some great info but I wanted to see if there is anythign recent. Info about hotels, things to do etc.

My silly (but love her to death) MIL got upset because she forgot to guve us a wedding card (HELLO she PAID for the ENTIRE reception! We don't need a card! We took her to dinner) so she gave us a very generous amount for our anniversay with the stipulation that 'it be used for something fun, not bills.'

So thanks to my fairy MIL we have the $$ to go to Vegas now! We were thinking of leaving on a Wednesday night and flying in so we're there all day Thursday, Friday, and saturday. Unsure of Sunday-depends if DH wants to stay Sunday and leave Monday or Sunday.

The original plan was to check out Vegas and do one day at the Canyon, but DH isn't sure that 3-4 days will be enough to do both. We're not club people but we'd like to maybe check out a show and explore the strip.

Is 3-4 days doable? If it is, where should we stay? I know the BELLAGIO is nice as is the Venetian but I think they're out of our price range and honestly, who spends that much time in the room anyway? We just want to be somewhere on the strip.

I appreciate your help ladies. We are trying to book this soon! We want to leave first or second week in August.

TIA!

First of EWHHHHHHHHHHHHHH to the LUXOR

NOT! Don't do it no matter what good price you get. I NEVER liked it but my friends just returned last month. One they told me graffati and gum was all over the elevators (which is not an elevator called something else b/c it goes up sideways)
2nd - 5G in cash was stolen out of my GF's room out of her purse it is still under investagation from the hotel and they are trying to get out of it by saying it was who she was staying with , which was a family member.
Bottom line is there are NO safes in the rooms, and they don't want to compensate her - they told her she should have called the front desk and they would have put in a seperate safe with the management.
That place is just nasty.

Don't feel you 'need' to be on the strip - I think that is unessacary. I have had the best times off the beaten path like.. Palms, HardRock, Rio and Wynn.

I would try to book Paris I think you might love that - also try Ceasers might offer a good rate b/c it is all new now.

We want to be on the strip just for ease of getting around so we can walk rather than having to wait for monorails ro anything.

I stayed at Mandalay Bay-their pool area is awesome! They have a 'beach', a wave pool and a lazy river, plus they have some good restaurants and clubs

Ok.<.loong sigh> I am certainly NOT telling you how to plan your vacation but from a Vegas veteran I can tell just b/c u r staying on the strip doesn't mean everything is easy to get around to by walking! All the hotel casinos look real close but in actuality they ARE NOT! Monorails um that is only for like one half end of the strip which I think only goes to 3 casinos total. There is NO wait time .. It is like Disney. Most likely you will be cabbing it after some time you physically cannot walk the entire strip the entire vacation. IMPOSSIBLE.
Make sure you bring walking shoes or heels with wedges your gna get blisters - I go prepared and still get them EVERY TIME.

exciting Jenn!!!! woohoo!!! gosh how i miss vegas!

I havent been there in 2 years so I know some things are different now than they were.

Def don't do the ventian- overrated not worth the room prices. The hotel is nice to go and see but not worth staying.

Mirage has small rooms, tresure island has nice rooms. The rio on the other side has the hugest rooms. Mgm is nice as well.

First time to vegas then I would do the wed- monday, vin and I always stay those days. It gives you time to walk around and do everything you want and not feel overwhelmed.

Def go off the strip, that is something vin and I haven't done yet (partly cause were degenerate gamblers ) but vowed we will on our next trip. They have tours and those speed jet things that go all crazy directions and jet ski tours n the canyon.

ITA with gemmifer that you will be walking A LOT. no matter where you stay. Vin and I pick the hotels by the cheapest price on the strip ( of the bigger hotels) You will walk but seeing the hotels alone will take up a whole day. Def look up what hotels offer what to see. One tip is to go to paris around sunset to go to the top- very pretty at that time.

The shows are great, there is sooo much to do and you really wont be in the room that much- it's truly a place for sexy time, sleep and showers.

Have fun, i cant wait to see pics!!!! Bring a little sweater, I always got chilly in the casinos even though it was 118 outside.

You will DEF be walking a lot, but for a first time visit I would highly recommend that you stay on the strip - and if you can, in the center of the strip (Paris, Planet Hollywood, Bellagio are pretty much the most central and then there are others near them like Mirage, Venetian that are not TOO much on either end). Staying on the strip will allow you to walk to a lot of the hotels and just kinda see what's going on. The Wynn is on the strip, it's just past the Venetian and across from Fashion Show Mall. We've stayed there and it was VERY nice, but it's more towards the top end of the strip (the Stratosphere is at one end and Mandalay Bay is at the other end). I'd def recommend that you visit some of the off strip hotels too - the Palms is a must I think. They have 3 (or 4?) clubs now, their new fantasy tower, etc. I hear great things about Hard Rock also.

You can def take the monorail if you want to get around but we didn't find it very convenient. There's a monorail that connects I believe 3 hotels which is what Gemmifer was probably referring to, but there is also the vegas monorail that goes from one end of the strip to the other. The only thing is that once you get off the monorail, you generally have to walk through an entire hotel to get back out to the strip - DH and I took it one time and it was like the longest walk when we got off at the Bally's stop.

You know I've been there my fair share of times, but by no means do I know it all. One thing I'd recommend if you have time and don't want to pay for a cab everywhere is to take the Deuce - it's a double decker bus that goes up and down the strip. Comes pretty often and the fare isn't bad at all. Then you can walk other times, and just take a cab if you want to go out to dinner or need to get somewhere farther than walking distance or whatever.

I've been to Vegas a lot for work and i would recommend staying on the strip. I stayed at the Palms and it just felt so far away from everything. The Mirage is great and reasonably priced. I like NY,NY, Caesars Palace and of course the Veneitian is amazing! There all great location wise too. I went skydiving in a town only about 30 minutes away. I think the town was Boulder and the company is skydive USA. It was awesome! Definitely see the Grand Canyon, if you can afford the helicopter tour, they take off close to the strip.
It will be hot, but you will be walking from hotel to hotel and spending time indoors to see most of the attractions so it shouldn't be too bad. It was 116 the last time i was there! You guys are going to have a blast!

Im so happy your going to Vegas

I was just there in June w/ Dh..and we stayed at the Bellagio - totally worth it, and I got a really good deal The next time we go (we cant wait!!) we're gonna stay at The Venetian/Il Palazzo..its just an amazing, huge, elegant hotel.

All the hotels are really pretty in their own way .. and at the end its the service and treatment thats most important. Bellagio was awesome bc they cleaned our room 2X a day!!! The Mirage, Luxor and Ceaser's looked nice...but I dont know how the rooms look - or how the service is....but I would try to be in the center of the strip, if possible.

Theres a lot of deals going on until Labor Day)... the Venetian has a deal that you pay what the weather is (so if the weather is 108degrees, you pay 108 that night - which is REALLY GOOD .. so maybe you can check that out - and they ONLY have suites - with 3 tvs (one in the bathroom, bedroom and living room)!!

The gardens in Bellagio are really pretty -theres a huge train made out of grass! Check out the Chocolate Fountain in Bellagio (alot of ppl dont know abt it - its amazing - the only thing that ***** is that its behind glass - and you cant eat it! )

As for shows, we saw Mystere and O. We like Mystere better - book the shows before you get there! so that you will have decent seats.

We also did the Hoover Dam/Grand Canyon trip ...we did the 18 hr tour - DONT DO IT! Do the 8 hr tour - the long one is a waste bc the bus driver stops at souveneir shops which take time away from the Grand Canyon! We went Mon-Fri ... you will have time if you go for 4 days.

Theres sooo much to do in Vegas - and never enough time to do everything. We walked ALOT and although it will be HOT - its not humid like NY weather - and humidity makes a BIG difference - so dont worry abt the weather..it feels worse in NY than in Vegas.

feel free to FM me if you have any questions..and HAVE FUN!!! !

Agreed, but will add that Delta is just about as good because the Delta planes to Vegas have TVs for every seat like JetBlue! Makes the flight go by soooo much quicker!
Alas, Jenn is probably going Jetblue anywho since she has a hookup!

Girls,

I just wanted to say thanks to you all. We have WAY more to go on now. Seriously, I appreciate it. Haven't played a vacation since our HM and our TA did all of that, so I was overwhelmed.

Re: VEGAS-ladies who been there, need more help

Jenn,
I've been to Vegas two times -- once with DH and once for my bachelorette party with the girls. Both times were very different.

I really loved Zumanity the show in New York New York hotel. It is definitely worth the $100/ticket or so.

There are so many free shows in all of the hotels. You can walk around in the evening and spend the whole evening just watching these shows, like the one with the pirates, and of course, the beautiful fountains at Bellagio.

I don't think that it's worth it to spend too much money on the hotel, because you're not there to spend time in the hotel, but in Vegas itself, right? The first time, we stayed at Imperial Palace, which is old, but is on the strip itself, and is really not expensive. It suited us because we were on a tight budget (this was 7 years ago).

We rented a convertible and drove down to do some sightseeing for 1/2 day. It was great.

The buffets are really great in Vegas. My favorite is in Paris.
