Ok so i looked up soem old posts and found some great info but I wanted to see if there is anythign recent. Info about hotels, things to do etc.
My silly (but love her to death) MIL got upset because she forgot to guve us a wedding card (HELLO she PAID for the ENTIRE reception! We don't need a card! We took her to dinner) so she gave us a very generous amount for our anniversay with the stipulation that 'it be used for something fun, not bills.'
So thanks to my fairy MIL we have the $$ to go to Vegas now! We were thinking of leaving on a Wednesday night and flying in so we're there all day Thursday, Friday, and saturday. Unsure of Sunday-depends if DH wants to stay Sunday and leave Monday or Sunday.
The original plan was to check out Vegas and do one day at the Canyon, but DH isn't sure that 3-4 days will be enough to do both. We're not club people but we'd like to maybe check out a show and explore the strip.
Is 3-4 days doable? If it is, where should we stay? I know the BELLAGIO is nice as is the Venetian but I think they're out of our price range and honestly, who spends that much time in the room anyway? We just want to be somewhere on the strip.
I appreciate your help ladies. We are trying to book this soon! We want to leave first or second week in August.
TIA!

Thats so nice of your MIL!!
Just so you know, August=100 + degrees. You arent going to want to walk around outside much.
There are so many hotels on the strip with all different price ranges. They are all good hotels. I've stayed at the Bellagio and its pricey. Price each hotel, im sure you can find a good deal.
I've only seen Cirque du Soleil LOVE and it was amazing. I am dying to see it again. LOVE
Red Rock Canyon is beautiful but again it will be very hot and not sure how much walking/hiking you will do in August.

I got to Vegas for work every year and I've stayed at the Wynn the Bellagio and the Mirage. Honestly the Bellagio is one of the most beautiful hotels I ahve ever stayed in!!! But... I like the Mirage it's not crazy like some of the other hotels and they are fixing the rooms so they have more modern decor. i stayed in a new room this year and it was great. I highly recommend the Mirage. I've never had a problem there.

DH and I went to Vegas in 2005, right after we graduated college (so we were both 22). He had been before, when he was like 15 with his family, but I had never been. We booked a 4 day trip through vacation outlet and stayed at the Excalibur--not the most fabulous or famous, but it was perfectly nice and it was cheap! And you're right, it's not like we were hanging out there. One good thing about Excalibur is that it has a free train thing to Mandalay Bay and the Luxor, b/c they're all owned by the same. We actually did go in August and it was REALLY hot, but it's a dry heat. We did walk up and down the strip, but also used the monorail thing. We basically went to every possible free show (we did our research!), and went to all the casinos just to see them. We only gambled a very little, and went out to the Hard Rock one night (off the strip), and to TI another. It was fun, but the days were so long, we couldn't make it that late after a whole day of walking around!
Really, I would just get the best hotel deal you can on the strip, and go from there, b/c it doesn't really matter which you're at as long as you're on the strip! That's my feeling at least 4 days was perfect to see everything!

Hey Jen! I think you can do alot in 4 days....but I would probably recommend 5 days because there is so much to do an see and with the heat you may be exhausted so may be add an extra day to relax!
As for hotels...all the pricey ones are very nice but you are right...you are never in the room. I have stayed at the Venetian and Palazzo but only bc DH company put us up there! I have seen rooms at NYNY, MGM, Treasure Island and the Luxor and they are better priced and very nice as well.
Ok so I used to live there and have seen all the Cirque shows (except LOVE) and they are all phenomenal. I particially love O and Mystere the best. I've also see Le Reve at the Wynn which was awesome. Also if you are looking for such a cool place to get a drink I always recommend Parasol Down at Wynn...there is an outdoor patio and a waterfall and funky little light shows and its alittle trippy but a must see in my opinion! Go after 7 and stay for awhile.
Umm I also love Lake Las Vegas...but its not on the strip...its a hike actually. But its a cool little Tuscan looking town with shops and restaurants and you can do a little boat trip on the lake for $20 each. Again its a pain to get there if you dont have a rental car...but its a place I would always take visitors when I lived there! The Hoover Dam isnt far either but again you need a rental car. YOu can do the Hoover Dam and Lake Las Vegas....they are in the same vicinity....maybe 20 minutes apart. I personally loved the Hoover Dam Tour...its pretty amazing...but I am little weird! LOL!
Ok and my last personal favorite is the fountain show at the Bellagio. Please dont miss it....its my favorite thing to do! Ok I am going to brainstorm and see if I can think of more things!

Love the Mirage. As someone said earlier, it's not as crazy as the other hotels, though just crazy enough, but it's gorgeous, right across the street from the Venetian so you can walk across and see the gondolas. Right next door to Ceasar's so you can go shopping and in my opinion has the best pool on the strip. They've also just updated their rooms with this really cool modern looking decor, the walls and everything are all this cool design. I can't wait to go back there again.

Thanks! Yea we wanted to go in June but I didnt have the time accrued. I can handle the heat but DH has issues with it. I really want to see the Canyon but Im afraid 4 days won't be enough.

You ladies ROCK! Thanks soooo much. I am good at researching but it helps I think when people have actualyl BEEN there and can tell you what they liked do you have a starting point.
We looked at the Mirage and Treasure Island because they were inexpwnsive but werent sure what to do from there. Ok so I know the fountain show. Yesi suggested the gardens inside the bellagio? What else. LOVE the freebies lol. And going to look into the Cirque shows since we're gettign so amny reccomendations.

Yes...love the botanical garden in the Bellagio too!
Also sometimes you can get 2 for 1 tickets for Mystere. Try googling it. I've been to see it twice and got two-fors each time.
Also DEFINITELY go see the canyon. I forgot to mention I did do that too (on a cross country trip)....it is really breath-taking and a must see. Are you going to do the helicoptor tour or go by bus?

Re: VEGAS-ladies who been there, need more help
The pirate show at Treasure Island is cute. BUT...it gets very crowded, claustraphobic and hot and can be alittle hard to see. Also they cancel the show if there is high wind (same with Bellagio fountains)...but that is mostly in the winter when its windy so you should be fine.

Yes, definitely check out the gardens inside Bellagio and of course the fountain show.
I liked the little gondola ride at the Venetian - I've done both the inside and the outside.
If you want to stay on the strip and not spend crazy dough, try Paris. We've stayed there and the price was really great considering it's SMACK in the middle of the strip - right across the street from the Bellagio.
Also, Alladdin was converted to Planet Hollywood hotel and it's right next door to the Paris. The prices used to not be so bad at Alladin so check it out.
I've heard Monte Carlo is a nice place to stay without breaking the bank.
If you're going for at least 4 full days, then I would DEF recommend you go out to the Grand Canyon. Like I mentioned to you, it's a FULL day thing (5 hours each way), but whoah, it was worth it! That would still leave you with 3 days to chillax, walk the strip, go through all the hotels, catch a show, chill at the pool, and maybe do a couple of things like the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay, ride the roller coaster at NYNY, etc.
ETA: Jenn, FM me the days you want to go.

definitely see a show. we saw the cirque show at the bellagio. - can't remember the name it is in water. we stayed at the paris across from the bellagio. every day we saw and heard the bellagio water fountains. paris was gorgeous. definitely stay in that area. it was main to everything. we went to freemont square one night, just to see the night show and get the 99 cent shrimp cocktail. we spent one day going one way down the strip and another going the other way. we were there from tuesday to saturday. on our last night we stayed at the medieval hotel. horrible compared to paris. it felt gross in every way.
good luck. i love vegas. can't wait to go back.

Re: VEGAS-ladies who been there, need more help
Jenn, DH & I were in Vegas last month and we stayed way, way off the strip (since we were chaperones on a high school trip). DH's father & brother were in Vegas at the same time for a conference and we were able to meet them for lunch at the Bellagio. I the Bellagio. The ceiling when you walk in is gorgeous and I loved the botanical garden there. We had lunch at Olive's and I had the best burger that I have ever had. We both really liked the Luxor and the Venetian. I liked the lion habitat in the MGM.

We drove from Ga to Vegas a few months back. We went to a wedding held at the Luxor. From what I could see it was really nice. The rates are reasonable also (for Vegas). We also went to the hoover Dam and Grand Canyon. It is def doable in 3 or 4 days. The Grand Canyon is about 4 hrs and 30 min from Vegas, You have to cross the Hoover Dam to get their anyway. The Grand Canyon was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I would def recommend checking it out. If you have any questions please let me know.

I would stay at a reasonably priced place. We stayed at the Excalibur and we were only there to sleep!!! Bellagio Water show is a must. If you can get to it check out freemont street. Go at night because they have the light show in the tunnel. Very cool. We went for 4 days a few years ago and walked the strip and had plenty of time. We didn;t do Red rock, but you should have time. I hear that the Wynn hotel is a must see!! Paris is beautiful! NY NY is fun to walk through. There is som much to do you guys are going to have a blast!!! Have fun.
