VENT ABOUT JERK IN MY OFFICE PART 16

For those who remember ....

He is still being the biggest AHOLE on the planet. He strormed into the office yesterday, slamming the door, banging crap in the kitchen - again, let me remind you how I have done nothing to deserve such treatment, ever. He JUST GOT HERE and I swear, he saw me sitting at my desk and decided to storm around because for some reason, my very presence irritates him. My boss comes in and he stops, and is all peaches and cream nice.

He also played that damn howard stern again yesterday. Loud. I don't care if he rents this space and we rent from him - that is just COMMON COURTESY - you don't play anything on your computer loud so that it would disturb anyone else, especially Howard talking about 'send in your naked photos' and what not. Gross and so inappropriate in any work place, even a laid back one like a production co. And whenever he works, he has the volume up FULL BLAST - he's a video editor so he's constantly listening to voice overs, etc and constantly starting, stopping, etc as he pieces a video together.

Now, it's just me in the office, and him. He's got the volume on his edit program on full blast and Howard's playing in the background. So I am listening to my music loud too, to drown out his shiit. Yes I have headphones but it's the principle -I have to put on headphones because he has his crap on full volume? And if I do put on the headphones, he'll think it does not bother me and that would PISSSSS me off, him thinking he's doing whatever the ffffuck he wants and I just deal like a good little employee of his good friend (my boss and him have been friends for years, we rent space in the jerk's office).

To top it all off - we installed cubicles a few months ago and all of our equipment is all over the office - we haven't got to moving it yet, it was busy in Nov and Dec - and today I come in, and he's jammed it all in a small space on 'our' side of the office. My boss is gonna come in and be like, w t ffff?

Thanks for reading ... I think I will DEFINITELY be applying for jobs now... dealing with him this past year has been hellll and he reminded me today of how much I cannot stand him. Coming here when he is here and being an assss is like torture. I like my boss, i like my job duties usually - but he's a jerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrk.

Oh I remember your stories about him.

He's just an A*s...no doubt about it. Miserable in his life I guess.

I'm sorry, it's not fun dealing with anyone like that and working in an uncomfortable environment.

Oh, God, Jenn, I am so sorry to hear what an AHOLE he still is! You're such a sweetheart - anyone who comes in and is instantaneously PO'd cuz of your presence clearly doesn't even know what he's doing!

I have someone in my office who is a misery, too, but nothing like him!!!

I'm sorry he is making you want to look for another job - that's terrible!!!

Well - him and the fact that I may be laid off soon anyhow ....

Thing is, I was hoping to have this job until we moved to NH in the fall. Now, if I find another one, I will only be there for 9 months or so, unless I can take it with me and work from home. If not -- which is what I expect -- I'll have to find ANOTHER job come Sept., and this time, it'll be a long distance search.

I am sure of it. A small penis, a short temper and a chubby asssss ... doesn't make for a nice man.

Can you be honest with your boss about how his friend's bizarre behavior is interfering with your ability to do your work properly AND how uncomfortable it makes you ?

The music alone would make me nuts, especially having to listen to Howard Stern - that's borderline sexual harrassment since that is mostly what Howard Stern show is about.
Especially since your boss seems not to be in the office when this jerk is doing this............

I've told him that it bothers me -- my boss that is ... last summer when he was away, the assss did all sorts of stupid things, ignoring my requests to find out the status of a job he was working on (to top it off, we are a CLIENT of his - he edits our productions), etc ... and my boss spoke to him but he was just nastier 'in silence.' He stopped playing howard for MONTHS, yesterday was the first time since July I think.

We used to be friendly, even what I would call 'friends.' We would talk every morning, chat about technology, our dogs, etc .. he has the capacity to be a nice guy. But something happened, I don't know if it was personal or what, and he started having an attitude all the time. So now my boss has to talk to him whenever there is a project being worked on - my boss knows I cannot stand him (his temper is such that i have told my boss that I am afraid he will punch a wall or worse when he is mad) ... once, when he was arguing with someone on the phone, and the jerk told my boss that the guy he was arguing with was coming into the office to 'work things out,' my boss said to me, maybe you should work from home. Everyone knows he has a bad temper. (the other people we all work with often call him 'happy.')

it's just a babyish, stupid thing - and maybe I am adding to it by not speaking to him - but i gave up long ago on being friendly and 'nice.' He can't even be CIVIL to me, why should I have to be friendly? My boss understands this, and we've got an unspoken agreement about it I think.

Silent treatment is best, just act as if he isn't there. Put a floor or desk fan in your your cubicle and run it - makes great white noise.
If you need to communicate with the jerk do it via e-mail and cc your boss so that there is a paper trail.

Hopefully you won't be laid off, but here's to wishing that you find a better position.

It actually started back in January of LAST YEAR - way before I was married. He was fine for the first 6 months I worked here. And I was engaged that whole time. He says he is not married, that he has 'no need to get married' since he and his 'girlfriend' don't want kids. But, I've heard him refer to her as his wife, and the gf's mom as 'mother in law.' So I think he is married. He bought a house last year, that might have contributed to his nasty behavior. Whatever, not MY issue that money's bringing you down.

I only email him - only way we have communicated in 6 months. Working fine for me.
