hm... would you consider staying in Alexandria, VA? it's right by DC and such a CUTE town. we just went to a wedding down there and stayed at the hotel monaco. Alexandria is right by the water and you can easily get into d.c.

I'm a big fan of kimpton hotels; they are cute and boutiquey. I'm pretty sure the Monaco in Alexandria has a sister one right in DC but i can't remember the name of it.

We stayed at the embassy suites but it was very pricey... Be aware 4th of july prices are much higher. I am planning our 1 year looking into different hotels and i cant believe the prices!!

I stayed at a Double Tree that is within walking distance to the White House. What streets are the hotels your finding on?

We love DC and going but in August. We LOVE the Omni Shoreham. Its a DC institution. Its right near a Metro station and (almost) walking distance to Zoo.
