DH and I were talking about the wedding cake and we couldn't remember if the flowers on top were silk or sugar paste... so we opened it up and tasted the flowers and some cake. They were sugar paste but we couldn't even wait until our 1 month anniversary.

We ate ours this past weekend after a year in my ILs freezer and I have to say it was really really good! YOu never would have known it was a year old!

Yuk no! The sugar paste flowers are the only thing we could eat and they didnt tast good and the cake itself was too frozen to taste but it was still so pretty.

Well, I didn't even have the top layer, because I wanted this other cake for the wedding, which was fake.
And so I couldn't have the top. But my bakery said for you 1st they give you a complementary cake for 2 -- I didn't do that either - I didn't think it was worth it, since I was having family over.

We happened to call to say hello to my parents and my mom goes, 'You weren't going to do that thing where you save the cake and eat it on your one year, were you?' I said, 'Yes, of course.'
'Oh...well, grandma found it in the freezer and ate it. She's glad you picked black forest b/c she really enjoyed it.'
What can you do? Gotta love her anyway!

aww that is really cute, gotta love grandparents! I've heard that you are supposed to save it, but does it really taste good after a year in the freezer? doesn't it get like the freezer burn?!
