Wedding Albums

Our photographer is great at taking pictures; however, it seems as though he's not as good at laying them out in an album.

DH and I were not crazy about the first draft of the album and asked him to completely revise the layout.

The albums are included in the contract, but I have yet to pay for them. Do you think that I can contest the contract and ask that they not include them at all? Or does the fact that the albums are in the contract mean that I must get them and that I must make the final payment (a significant amount $$$)?

It would really help if I can see the layouts of other brides' albums so that I can tell if I am being very picky or realistic. If you can, please post pages from your album.

You've seen the stuff I do Vik. What kind of album are you looking for? I know alot of brides likeTara's album( GettinHutched). I mean they can keep changing it till you're happy.

What don't you like about it?

What is it your looking for - more magazine and less single portraits? Because what dh and i are doing is doing our regular album with just matted photos (nice and clean and traditional) to showcase our photographer and us and then once we get teh pics on cd I will lay out my own album with text (more of a storybook) and magazine/book style feel.

Yea I agree. Talk to them though and state EXACTLY what you want and then if they cannot do it, you can probably negotiate out of it without it becoming a breach of contract.

Keep in mind that brilliant photographers are sometimes just that; brilliant photographers, NOT designers. The lucky ones have both skills but its not that common. it just makes sense for most photographers to do album work in house so they try their hand. I can design well, can't take pics for beans so it goes both ways. Try and find pics of albums you like and show them.

He'll give us a second draft, but if we don't like it, then I'd love to give him photos of other albums just to give him an idea of what we're looking for.

Give him the photos BEFORE the draft Vika. If you're not happy he needs visuals. Remember when I was doing your TY card and you weren't sure what you wnated so we kept going and back and forth till I gave you some visuals? People work best from visuals if you have certain ideas for something.

Look at albums here on LIW, take a peek at the link I sent you and see what you like. Otheriwise, if his vision differes from yours, you're both going to end up frustrated because it will not be what you want and you both waste time and energy.
