Did anyone manage to make a profit off their wedding or break even? I'm assuming most, like me, ended up spending more than we received...it's wasn't as bad as I thought though, I just figured out, if I include monetary and shower gifts, plus whatever our parents helped us out with, that we actually only spent around $12-13,000 for our wedding. I'm curious to see how that measures up to anyone else.

Re: Wedding Debt
We split the cost of the wedding into thirds. If we are talking about just the amount we put in, we made back everything plus an additional 7k. If you are talking about the entire cost of the wedding we made back a little more than 2/3.

Re: Wedding Debt
No our Wedding cost more than we received.
But we knew that going in and we are ok with it!

Re: Wedding Debt
We made about $9,000.
However, we paid for everything ourselves, so we would have done very very nicely if our parents had paid.
but, the good thing was we did not put anything on credit cards and always had the moeny to pay everything, so ALL of the gift money went right back into the bank so it 'looks' like we made mad money.

Re: Wedding Debt
Not even close! The wedding cost us wayyyy more than we got back. But it's okay, I kind of figured that would happen!

Re: Wedding Debt
We got back about 60% of what we spent-but we paid for just about everything in full whether cash or check before the wedding so what we had when we were done was ours.

Re: Wedding Debt
We are no way in debt from our wedding!! We saved our money BEFORE we booked the date and we were still able to get married with in a year from our engagement. I REFUSED to spend alot of money on ONE day when we have the rest of our lives to live...So we locked our money away and set a strict budget and kept it. We actually went way under budget!
Our wedding was amazing and affordable. In the end after calculating our generous gifts...I was in happy tears to see we profiting double and a half what we paid for our wedding.
Oh and that doesnt even include the shower gifts....I tear up every time I think about it

Re: Wedding Debt
ppsshhhhtt.....yea right. we made just around what we spent on our RECEPTION HALL. that's about it. but we had paid for everything cash, and only had to borrow money from a relative at the end to help pay a small balance on our honeymoon. so no crazy debt for us or anything... but still - what wedding cost these days

Re: Wedding Debt
Well we paid everything off in cash before the wedding day so when we got back from the HM we deposited all the $ and basically acted like we were starting from scratch. We never wanted to make $ off the wedding so anything we got we were grateful for! We had extremely generous guests but in the long run, I don't think it covered 1/2 of what we spent!

Re: Wedding Debt
we got about half of what we spent. My family and oot guests do not give money as gifts for the most part. So we just got money from my husbands side- wow if we had gotten money from my side we would haev made a killing!
