Wedding gift Q

I have to go to a friend's wedding in a few weeks. It's a really informal wedding (outdoor ceremony --yes in the cold, and reception at a BBQ place).

I'm a little stumped on a gift for her. For my wedding she and her DH came and they sent me a gift from my registry that cost about $50.

Maybe this is going to sound bad, but I could not give her a gift of $50, but I also feel funny giving her the gift I would give if she were having a big formal wedding $250-300. I don't want to seem showy or something by giving her a huge gift compared to the gift she gave me. Plus I honestly was a little baffled by her gift because she and her FH both work, so it's not as if they are broke. We likely have more money than they do, but not by that much.

I'm thinking a registry gift in the $150 range, or just a $150 check.

I feel like that's kind of cheap for a wedding under ordinary circumstances, but I also feel weird because it's 3x what she gave us.

DH and I are honestly baffled. WWYD?

This is a friend from HS. I've known her for a long time. We don't really speak or hang out much but we're still friends and there's no way i would miss her wedding.

i wouldn't spend $150. if you feel weird, get something off of her registry for like $100. Try to use a coupon if you can find one. I wouldn't send a check/give cash.

Re: Wedding gift Q

We were in pretty much the same position this summer. DH's friends bought us an engraved keepsake box from Things Remembered for our wedding (also bought something off our registry before our shower, but never came to the shower and never sent the gift ) Then they got married this summer in a VERY casual(T shirts and jeans type of casual) backyard wedding and DH was the best man. We wound up giving them a check for $150 (but they didn't have a registry)

Re: Wedding gift Q

I don't give a gift based on what the person got me. We have some friends who werent in a position to give a big gift to us, but I never hold that against them when deciding what to give.
