Wedding gown preservation in Brooklyn? Edited with another question..Madam Paulette??

Hey ladies...anyone know of place in Brooklyn that does this well?

I was thinking of using WedClean but I am so nervous about mailing my dress out.

Has anyone used Madam Paulette? This is Kleinfeld's suggested gown preservationist...

Re: Wedding gown preservation in Brooklyn?

Do you have a dry cleaner that you trust? I know every dry cleaner claims to speciailze in this but there was no way i was handing my dress over to my local dry cleaners no matter what they said.

So I sent it to wedclean. I doubt there is a company that specializes in this in Brooklyn since there is only one major one (and its crazy expensive to boot) that does it in Manhattan.

Re: Wedding gown preservation in Brooklyn?

See this is what is weird...I have a good dry cleaner, but how do we really know if what they are doing is good? My friend gave her gown to her really good dry cleaner and it came back with a slew of missing beads, very noticeable on the front too. I already have a few missing because of wear and tear from the wedding day, but I really don't want it to come back butchered!

Re: Wedding gown preservation in Brooklyn?

I think most Dry Cleaners send out their gowns and that is exactly why i dont trust it.

I was concerned about sending my dress to wedclean too but i put a few thousand of insurance on it so i figured if it got lost, I would have the $$ to console me. Hahaha

Stef were you happy with wedclean? Did they just clean it or did they preserve it, put it in a box etc....?

Re: Wedding gown preservation in Brooklyn? Edited with another question..Madam Paulette??

I was pretty happy with wedclean. They were a little lax in getting me the emails about recieving my dress which freaked me out a little. But when it got straigtened out they were very nice and apologetic.

They not only cleaned the dress but also 'preserved it' in a nice storage box and also sewed on the straps that were pulled off.

They cleaned all the little stains out. There is a still a bit of the dirt stains left on the hem but I know there is nothing that can be done to make it exactly like new - but its more than close enough for me.

One thing I like about them is that they dont put it in a box that can never be reopened. In fact, they encourage you to take it out once a year and air it out to prevent damage to the fabric.

Thanks. If you don't mind me asking, how much did they charge?
I think it's about time I get mine done...it's going on 2 years

Cant remember exactly but it was about $100 plus shipping and insurance. So maybe $140??

I know it was a lot cheaper than the estimates I got elsewhere.
