Last night I was getting my veil for my BF to wear at her wedding in Sept......and there my wedding dress was (it's in the back of the closet so it's hard to get to).....so I tried it on . The dress is a size two but altered to around a zero so I basically knew there was no way it would still fit (put on a few lbs since the wedding).
Well, I got it on and walked into the other room where DH was and he was like -What the he!! are you doing - I said shut up and try to zip it. Well, we got it zipped but I couldn't really move so well OR breathe . When I tried taking the zipper down, it got stuck on the tag and DH had to get pliers to get me out
ANYWAY, I've thought about it and would really like to have a christening gown made from my wedding dress. Has anyone done this that could recommend a great seamstress (but reasonable) to do it?

I dont know of anyone... I just wanted to let you know I think that is a REALLY REALLY great idea.... You can keep it in the family and years from now, you relatives will be telling the story about how this christening gown was your great great grandmothers wedding gown!!!! Thats really cool!

Funny you should mention that... The woman at Angel Bridals said that about my dress. I assume that they do it there. The number is 631 581 3330
i have no idea what it would cost and if they are cheap or not... but I LOVED them when I got my dress there..
Hope this helps!

Re: Wedding gown to a Christening gown
my mom did this with her gown! A friend made it for her! I love the idea! I want to do it too but at the same time I want my child to wear the same one I wore, so who knows!

Re: Wedding gown to a Christening gown
Our family christening gown was made from the lace of my mothers wedding gown. (My Nana made both gowns) 5 of my parents 6 kids wore it (my brothers Godmother bought him an outfit so my mother felt she had to let him wear it.) As did my niece, 2 nephews and my son. The gown is now over 45 years old.

Tracy that is great!! I love to hear when family heirlooms get passed down through out the generations, it makes everything so much more meaningful!!!!
