I take weddings very seriously. Needless to say, I took my wedding seriously as well. Those that didn't show up to my wedding (for stupid reasons) basically sent me the message of 'I don't really care that much about you' by not being there to celebrate with me. Since then, I've crossed them off my list of people I speak to and the funny thing is - friends that aren't married and haven't planned weddings for 2 years like I did, just don't get it! No one is going to change my mind about this but it's hard to explain to someone that isn't married why I would cut off someone who didn't show up to my wedding. You ladies get that from your single friends too?

Re: We're all so much alike! What do you think?
I agree, i will never speak to the two couples who didnt show up to my wedding mostly b/c i never even got a phone call from them after my wedding! That is just beyond rude!
If i was invited to a wedding i would not say im coming and then not show up....thats just so embarassing and unacceptable!

I agree completely, it shows a complete lack of disrepect and sends a sign that the person does not value your relationship- that, and it is just plain rude!

I agree 100%! Especially if they didn't even have the decency to call afterwards & apologize? I still can't believe my cousin didn't even bother to call.
It's completely a lack of respect and people just have no idea until they plan (& pay!) for something like that to realize how it feels. I have to say though, I cannot understand how people who have been there before & have had a wedding can do it. Don't they remember how they felt when people did that to them?

One comment on what you said. I was talking to a married woman recently and when I mentioned how I feel about ppl not showing up etc....she actually told me that she didn't care if ppl came to her wedding or did not come! I feel bad for her. I don't understand how this is possible. Did you not spend months/years planning this? Thinking and agonizing over every little detail? Don't you want the WHOLE WORLD to know how much you love DH?

Re: We're all so much alike! What do you think?
Maybe I'm in the minority but I would not hold what someone did on one day against them for the rest of their life. I think it's nasty for them to to not show up but maybe something happened you just never know unless you speak to them. I think if they have been good to you since you have known them it would be a shame to end a friendship over not showing up. Now if they just didn't show up because a good movie was tv that night that is another story. I think then you would have to re-evaluate your whole relationship with them and see if they are just selfish people. I know with the people that were no shows at our wedding they didn't call because they figured Dh and I had enough stuff going on. They didn't want to add any stress or upset anyone. One of my cousins that missed said she couldn't believe that I noticed she wasn't there since she figured i would be so busy with everything else since the day flies by so quickly. Before I was married I always thought of weddings as a fun night to go out dance, see friends and have a good time. I never viewed it as this is the final product of 3 years of planning and 10 years of paychecks. For DH and I our wedding was everything we had hoped for and more to all our guests I'm sure it was another Saturday night out. You never really know what goes into it until you have done it yourself. We planned our wedding in three months so we were just glad that people could show up on a very short notice. I hope I'm not stepping on anyones toes with this I'm just giving my perspective plus it is a slow day at work

I agree with what you all are saying, because I had at least 6 people who did not show up and who did not call and it is just rude..
BUT at the same time I had all the people there that wanted to be there and the ones that did not show up are the ones that missed out.. not me. I still had the time of my life and so did everybody else that was there.... I honestly feel that they lucked out..

i agree! To be perfectly honest, I didn't even notice the no-shows! We had a few who, for whatever reason, didn't come to the wedding. It stinks because we did pay for them, but the wedding is just one day. As long as people are there with us through the marriage, I don't mind if they didn't show up for the wedding. As much as we would have loved to had them there... people don't need a wedding to see how much we all love our DHs!

Re: We're all so much alike! What do you think?
My NO SHOWS, whether my friends, my family, or my husbands family, have no meaning in our lives anymore. Especially since he was the first boy, ( he has a younger brother ) to get married.

No shows didn't bug me at all- we really didn't have many. Like I said in another thread- it's those GOOD friends that leave after dinner that kill me.
But if they were no shows? Holy crap, then yeah, they'd be done with me! Well unless there was a good excuse and a phone call.

Re: We're all so much alike! What do you think?
just to clear up what I said - if you have a good excuse (sick, unable to travel, financial problems) and you tell me that you can't come - no biggie at all!
However, if you're planning a vacation months befor my wedding and you know perfectly well that you'll be missing my wedding or some other lame excuse then you're cut off. That's how I feel about the situation. It's not the fact that I paid for them and now they're not showing up - its simply respect. Friends that are worth keeping are those that show up to life's major events.
And in Milana's case - if you miss your flight and dont make it to the wedding and dont' call afterwards to apologize! OMG!!! That's incredibly rude! We say 'sorry' when we step on someone's foot - why can't you say 'sorry' for missing one of the most important event's in a persons life?!?!?
If anyone doesnt agree with me, it's perfectly ok. I'm not trying to start anything, really. Just stating my opinion. I just get ticked off whenever I think about it and decided to post about it today. love you all!

thats so funny you say this, PEGALEGA(Peggie) and I were on the phone last night talking about this and we said how we get along so well compared to our friends who are single and have been friends with for years! i get a lot of crap from my single or even friends with boyfriends. its so different when ur married and they dont understand and they wont till they are married i get so mad cause is sad that i talk to someone ive only known for a few months everyday and i only talk to my friends ive know all my life once a month.

Re: We're all so much alike! What do you think?
We had only one couple as a no show and I am pretty upset about it. Granted, I was not close to this person, but their entire family came, except for him and his date. He found out a week before that his gf would not be able to go so he decided he would not go. Um . . hello? Your entire family is coming (10 people) and I have known you since you were born. I was kinda aggravated at his mom too because she told me he was coming (even though he didn't send an RSVP).
Only one other person did not come who I wanted there and that was because her g-pa had a stroke and she had to go to Florida. That didn't bother me in the least, but then I sent her an email after we got back from the HM asking how he was and she never sent me one back. That was 4 weeks ago.

Re: We're all so much alike! What do you think?
i think the no shows and non gifters are in poor taste--- but im not 100% like ' you're an A$$hole dont ever talk to me again'
I think karma is a ***** and they'll get theirs... but the fact that some didnt come or didnt give a gift left a bad taste in my mouth-- but its worse to dwell on the few who ****** rather than the 200 that came and danced and ate and celbrated--- if they are that miserabley unhappy and selfish-- tis their bad.... better they didnt bring me donw on my wedding day
( not to say I wasnt pissed-- i was-- but looking back it really isnt something i care about anymore)

I agree, it is so insensitive and people just don't get it.
