DH and I would eventually like to move out to long island (preferably nassau but we're open to suffolk)... I'm on mlsli.com and trying to look at some listings but it asks for towns or school districts and I don't know much about long island unfortunately.... which towns / school districts are considered 'good'?
TIA!

I'm in the same boat. If you go to the Home section of LIF...there's a TON of info there about good LI towns and school districts!

There are so many good towns and school districts. I have lived on long island for a while so i am familiar with alot of them, but i guess it really comes down to your preference. Just to name a few - Merrick, Massapequa, Roslyn, Syosset, Woodbury.

I have to recommend my home town, Holbrook. Its in a good school district Sachem, and its not too far out. Sort of middle Suffolk. Its a safe neighborhood as well.

I agree with this being in Wantagh
but you need to be careful to corrolate the towns and the school disticts because it's not always a 1 to 1 match.
example: Seaford neighborhood has some homes in Wantagh school district which is a good combo but some aren't. some homes in Wanatgh are in Levittown school district. I'm not sure about that district but it used to have higher taxes than Wantagh school district. so thosee are things you need to check.
also in Levittown, besides levittown SD there's Island Trees. schoolwise that was good, altho now there is issue with Lead in one of the schools and the district being sued by parents etc
hope this didn't get you more confused.

Re: what are considered good long island towns?
Hmmm its hard to break it down. There are alot of nice towns with bad areas so be careful.
OK also - with nice towns come expensive homes and possibly higher taxes...so take that into consideration. If I had to move back to LI and had alot of money to spend...this is where I would consider living (its very broad)
Port Washington, Cold Spring, Northport, East Northport, Head of the Harbor, Setauket (3 village school district), Manorville, Eastport.
Oh I like Port Jeff too....and some parts of Calverton/Baiting Hollow

Re: what are considered good long island towns?
Island Trees is a good district They have lead in their basement or something - but in all my years in the school district (grew up there), we never went down there. They used to have the wrestling team down there, but not anymore. I don't think thats a reason to move or not move there. . .by the time most of our kids hit the high school, I'm sure it will be taken care of
