DH and I would eventually like to move out to long island (preferably nassau but we're open to suffolk)... I'm on mlsli.com and trying to look at some listings but it asks for towns or school districts and I don't know much about long island unfortunately.... which towns / school districts are considered 'good'?
TIA!

Re: what are considered good long island towns?
New Hyde Park/Floral Park/Franklin Square/Garden City.....you have the best school districts, close to all shops and major parkways and not far from the city OR Suffolk.

I guess it's really a matter of choice/ opinion. Whenever I've seen postings similar to this, some people respond recommending towns that I, personally, wouldn't consider 'good.' I think that nowadays, most towns on LI have good and not so good areas.....even within 1 school district.
My best advice is to drive around different areas....that's what we've been doing. Or, if u find a house that u like, drive around the neighborhood to get a feel for it.

I completely agree with this. I would start researching areas that you like and break it down from there. Remember LI is really large so there are so many options. Nassau, suffolk, northshore, southshore etc. Also some districts are more populated by one religion then another -- this may not bother some people but will others.
And like someone else said just because you like one town doesn't mean the house you like is in that town's school district.
