What are you guys doing for holidays??

Because already I have the 'You're my daughter' card thrown on the table

dh has a hugefamily- not sure WHAT we're doing

We usually spend Christmas Eve with his family and Christmas Day with mine...

Thanksgiving should be interesting though? Last year we tried to split it and it was a TERRIBLE idea sooooooo I bet that we're going to do Turkey day and X mas eve there and I get Christmas and Easter?

I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate going to his family's house even though I love them because its such tight space, I always feel like no matter where I am, i'm in the way!

its going to be hard, DH's parents are divorced, his dad lives in NJ
my mom always wants us involved...
and my brother just had a baby so i kinda wanna be around for my nephew's first holidays too!

altho we have been together for quite some time so we already have a 'system' down its going to have to change a little now

Thanksgiving - my family
Christmas Eve - His family first----then my family
Christmas Day - Just the 2 of us
NYE & NY - Probably out w/ Friends

Thankgsiving for the last 3 years have been spent with my family at the house in Florida and since next year I want to make my first Thanksgiving dinner, and we have a wedding Sat so we can't go to Florida... this year we are doing one Thanksgiving at the in-laws.

Christmas was a mess last year. We planned around Jay's Aunts big Christmas Eve party and Christmas Mass with his extended family. So we went to NJ Christmas Eve. Then in the morning we woke up in NJ, did gifts with his family and had to rush back to Long Island to do Christmas morning with my family (because that is the biggest part of our holiday traditions and I wasn't missing it.) Then we missed MIL's dinner and we went to my Aunts with my family.

So while we LOVE his Aunts party this year we are switching it up. My mom is going to do Christmas Eve dinner and inviting my extended family. We are going to get up and do Christmas morning at their house. Then drive to NJ to do Christmas afternoon with his family and be there for MIL's dinner.

I want to develop this habit because when we have kids they are waking up in their own home Christmas morning, not in NJ.

DH's parents live in NJ, 2 hours away from us, so we can't split holidays.
We've been pretty successful alternating the last few years. Like, last year we did Thanksgiving with my fam, this year with his.
My family is pretty big on Xmas eve and his doesn't do anything, so regardless we typically get to see everyone. It's worked so far.

Christmas - we will probably try to have it at our house....that is if we ever find a place....

well since we have already had our home for 5 years now - for the past 4 we now have Thanksgiving at our house- but it's not the whole family -just my parents & brother, my mom's cousin & her DH & also mom's cousin's daughter & her SO - one Thanksgiving we got DH's parents to come up from Fla - so that was nice.

Christmas has ALWAYS been at my parents & considering DH's family lives in Fla -it's not much of a thought. DH & I have always done a Christmas Eve dinner by ourselves. Last year though, we went & spent Christmas Day @ my parents & then went the day after Christmas down to Fla & spent a week including New Years w/his parents - but we had also just gotten engaged so we dont normally go down to Fla for the holidays.

I have no idea yet. We were asked by his uncle to be at their place for Thanksgiving only cause out og gulit, long story. Id like to be at my family's, we have more fun,

The end of the year holidays are generally reserved for my family. My mother is a Nazi about Christmas, so we'd probably be able to get away with not going there for Thanksgiving, but definitely not Christmas Eve or Christmas. We're having Christmas at our apartment this year, so that at least alleviates some of the stress. Not sure just how many people we'll be able to fit though.
