i always feel to each their own, but i def. have a negative connotation about it.

i dont think polygamy should be practiced but i dont think the goverment should step in and make it illegal.

my issue isn't with the idea of polygamy---i mean if people want to be involved like that--its their life

but my main concern is with these 'religious sects' that have older men with multiple wives--who are forcing young girls...ages 11, 12, 13 -- to be 'religiously married' to a man who is 50 years old and forcing them to have sexual relations and bear their children. that is not okay at all---and i think like the case in Texas--this relgious 'group' is nothing more than a bunch of dirty men who have brain washed these women to allow them to give up their rights and children to the men's pedophilic lusts

I totally agree, and this goes for any religion that condones this.

ITA. I think it starts lending to having to think aout the emotional and mental well being of both the involved parties and the poor kids who grow up in that lifestyle. I just in general don't like :out of the norm' lifestyles. Mind you I don't include gay parents riaisng children in that category because its still loving families. But stuff like polygamy or that man woman person gettign preggers.. If you're going to bring kids into those odd mixes that will bring alot of hardship down on the kids, I can't support that.

I have no problem what consenting adults do. If a man or woman wants more than one spouse, good for them. However I'm against force marriage and anything involving minors. Its not for me, but to each their own.

I don't think there's a right or wrong answer for this one. It just depends on what kind of a society you live in. But I dont like the idea of polygamy. One reason is b/c it encourages gender inequality. In nearly all the cultures where polygamy is practiced it is only the men who have multiple wives, not the other way around. Obviously this is not right, regardless of whether or not it is consistent with tradition.

In most cases yes. However I was watching something, a long long long time ago on inner city polygamy. Their was a married couple and some guy who had fallen in love with the wife. She admitted she had feelings for him. Instead of being forced to decide, they opted to add him to the family. It worked for them, and they were looking for another female, because she couldn't keep up bedding two men. LOL

I agree with Melissa, but I disagree with Jen, think about what you said 'bring kids into those odd mixes that will bring alot of hardship down on the kids,' That is what people said about mixed marriages. I would think that you, who is in a 'mixed' marriage would think that is a narrow minded view.

I think that we all judge and should be entitled to our own opinions, but that ione sentence struck a chord with me. What isn't them 'norm'?
I had my DD out of wedlock, is that out of the norm?!?!?

I think that if you love and treat your family well, whether it be straight, gay, tranny, poly, blue, green, black or purple, it's fine, just love, respect and treat right you own!

OK, I am stepping off of the soap box, flame away!

Re: what are your thoughts on polygamy? should it be legal?

so what's the difference between a religious sect and a cult again?

I can't stand when groups do immoral / illegal acts and then try to hide behind the curtain of 'religious tolerance' This is BS and needs to be called out.

this group is infamous for mistreating their women and children. The girls are raped when they're barely teens, incest is common, most of the boys are expelled from their community before age 18 and are left to wander the dirt roads until they find a nearby town... usually they end up living on the streets. The women have no rights or say at all. they never leave the compound... ever.

Anywhere in the civilized world this would be considered horrendous child abuse and highly illegal. But in this case, craziness has taken over and we actually spend media time debating whether people have the 'right' to live this way, and question whether the gov't is 'persecuting their religion'.

Notice how mainstream mormons have never been 'targeted by the gov't'. This likely is becuase they don't mistreat their children!

if my statements are considered 'religious intolerance', it is officially time to revamp our societies extremely tolerant ways.....
