I call my FIL by his first name and my MIL a stupid nickname, I just can't call her by her first name and can't call her mom, because I still have mine.
But I call her mom grandma...whats my problem?

You're not alone! I call DH's Grandparents Grandma and Grandpa..but I can't call his parents mom and dad...I don't know if they even wantt hat..I call them by their nicknames and i hate it lol

You're not alone! I call DH's Grandparents Grandma and Grandpa..but I can't call his parents mom and dad...I don't know if they even wantt hat..I call them by their nicknames and i hate it lol
Thank god!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL I started thinking about this with the holidays coming! Not like I don't see them every 2 weeks, lol

Hahaha I so hear ya...sometimes I just say 'Hey...' instead of 'Hey Mom..' I feel like such a moron but i just can't call them mom and dad! I feel like I could call FIL Dad faster than MIL mom ya know?

i call FIL Dad Duda and his Mom Bonnie...calling her mom seems weird... but in reality i try to avoid using anything so its not awkward...lol i just kinda wait till i have their attention! haha

ILs have signed cards and stuff for me 'Mom and Dad' since before we were engaged. I have only seen them once since the wedding and didn't call them Mom and Dad. I asked DH if I should, and he said 'it's up to you', ugh he's no help. As of now I call them by their first names.

I feel like i try not to address them at all because I don't know how. I always called them Mr. & Mrs. Barbely, but now that I am Mrs. Barbely that is so weird to say. DH told me to call them by their first name, but I met them when I was 18, so for 11 years I have called them formally, how do you go so informal? My parents said they don't care if I call them mom and dad, but that would be odd for me and I don't think they want me to anyhow.
DH is having the same problem. My parents told him to call them mom and dad but he can't bring himself to. He has known them for 11 years as well.
Its so hard.

I've been calling my in-laws mom & dad even before the wedding...just felt natural & I still have both my parents...but I am very traditional & old fashioned I guess

But what's REALLY funny is that since DH has been in the picture and called my parents by their first names, I now call them Bob and Karen also!

I call them by their first names. I think its strange to call them mom and dad because they aren't my parents but I guess that how I was raised.....my parents cal their in-laws by their first name.

He calls my mom mom sometimes though
my dad he would like to call many other words so he just sticks to hisown
we both call eachothers grandmothers and aunts aunt and grandma...

My Mom and DH's Dad have passed so we both would never call the other's Dad/Mom.
DH calls my dad by his first name and I call his mom by her first name. DH also has a grandmother that he NEVER called Grandma and always called her by her first name so I do the same.
DH's grandma is one cool lady! The woman is almost 80 and looks like she is in her 60's! She was the hit of our wedding!

Omg so happy someone posted this. Dh actually told me a few weeks ago that his mom wants me to call her mom. I dno tho I have my parents and cnt think calling his parent mom and dad. When I am home with dh and we are talkinf about each other parent I still say ur mom and ur dad. But his gma I call gma becuase thaty is how I was introduced to her bc she doesn't speak english and to pronounce her name in turkish is hard. Dh I couldn't even think what he calls my parent when he see them as he doesn't talk much at all. There be a handful of time I say mom or dad when talking to or about them.

This is actually a very touchy subject for me. I don't feel comfortable calling them by their first names and I feel like I can't call them mom or dad so I avoid calling them anything! In his family they traditionally call the in-laws mom and dad and I know his parents want me to call them that but I feel like I am disrespecting my step-dad if I do that. He helped raise me since I was 8 and even though I loved him like a father I always called him by his first name so I don't feel like it's right to call someone else Dad. Maybe over time I will get over it but for now I just avoid the situation all together!
