I call my FIL by his first name and my MIL a stupid nickname, I just can't call her by her first name and can't call her mom, because I still have mine.
But I call her mom grandma...whats my problem?

My MIL expects me to call my FIL 'father' but it's asking too much b/c even I don't get all that formal with my own father. I call him by his first name or Dad. I call my MIL by her first name b/c I can't see myself calling her mom. I think it's different with the grandmas b/c they tend to be more laid back than the mothers.

I just call them Steven and Rosy.
Except when we're around DH's niece and nephew. Then they're 'Nana' and 'PawPaw'.
As a side note, I'm sooooo not a hugger. MIL always wants to hug me when we visit but I stay away. I don't even like hugging my own parents much. It's just so weird to me.

DHs parent's are really uptight but I thought they might lighten up once we were married.

I call his dad by his first name but he is NOT the typical father. . more like a kid in many ways. . was pretty absent and not having his sh*t together in DH's life and now is there but not parental. . no $ or emotional help for the wedding (aside being happy for us and showing up) I think Dh calls him by first name most of the time too. .
and his mom is gone so don't get to call her anything. . sad I never even got to meet her as she passed before we met. .

I feel like i try not to address them at all because I don't know how. I always called them Mr. & Mrs. Barbely, but now that I am Mrs. Barbely that is so weird to say. DH told me to call them by their first name, but I met them when I was 18, so for 11 years I have called them formally, how do you go so informal? My parents said they don't care if I call them mom and dad, but that would be odd for me and I don't think they want me to anyhow.
DH is having the same problem. My parents told him to call them mom and dad but he can't bring himself to. He has known them for 11 years as well.
Its so hard.
DH parents are divorced. I met DH's mother when I was 19, and for the past almost 8 years, I've called her by her first name. His father and stepmother live in FL, and we see them maybe once or twice a year. I don't think I'll be calling his parents 'mom and dad'... it'd feel odd. I don't know that my parents would mind, but I think I would.
