ugh i always dread this post b/c I'm so torn when it comes to 'what i want to be when i grow up
I'm a secretary for a University...
BUUUUUUUUT... I'm an artist and trying desperately to get closer to living off that. (probably never would)
I was a producer at a post production company (television) worked on Sex in the City, Spin City... had a pretty cushy career started but I gave it all up to have my son (got knocked up)
Now, I'm working and hopefully starting graduate school for art therapy.... but im procrastinating.
never say never.... my friend is living off of her art... partly becuase I keep commissioning more art she does abstract water color portraits, but in the past did murals for kids rooms and furniture.... she stopped doing those becuase it was too strenuous (she has a disability).
she also considered art therapy, but couldn't handle going back to school AGAIN. but she really wanted to do it.....
I *just* started doing murals... I'm actually starting one for my son this wknd. HERE is one I did for my nephew's room.
thank you for the kind words. I'm on the border of depression over this... I have a GOOD job but I'm not proud of myself b/c I worked so in college and now I'm not doing ANYTHING with the degree I earned. Since I'm working for a University, my tuition is free so I cannot pass up the opportunity to use those benefits...
Definately don't give up! It's a tough field but it can be done :) I went to school for art too and I started working for a civil engineering company as a secretary - I had taken some graphics classes in school and showed them what I could do - they ended up creating a graphics dept. for me - it has grown from basic 2D simulations in photshop to full scale 3D modeling and annimation. I was just promoted to the manager of the CAD dept. It's not fine or conceptual art but I like being able to bring an aspect of art into my work.
A friend of mine earned a living doing murals for a few years - she partnered with a woman doing murals for the City of Albany, the painted concrete bridge piers to look like stonework and delft tile
my favorite job of hers is a pedestrian bridge which depicts the history of Albany through pictures, here are a few:
I love the work that you have posted here, you are very talented! Good Luck with it!!!

that's so cute...... don't give up hope... with art, it's all about marketing. My friend said there's a REAL market for murals, but the trade-off is that you have to put up with many snooty wealthy parents who are rather disrepectful to you (can you paint my sons entire room with an elaborate mural for $500, and get it done in one day She politely corrected them and said $3k, and give me a week... but after a few happy customers, their friends will come looking for you....

I'm an attorney.
I would love to open my own boutique that sells eclectic gifts. That's the goal once I totally turn grey from the legal field.

I am currently a secretary in a real estate office part-time. I am still in school. I'm working on my associates at Nassau & then I plan to get my degree in nursing & either become a L&D nurse or what I'd really like is to contine on to be a midwife (CNM).

I do window displays.
I've worked for 10 years in the visual retail industry(doing displays, interior design, merchandising all that) & last year I left a job for a better opportunity (so I thought) & just today my boss told me they are getting rid of my position because they need more sales managers not visual managers. Crazy ! so now it's back to resume writting & getting my portfolio together again.
Sorry to write so much but since it just happened I had to get it out.
Thats a cool job! I love good widow displays. Keep looking-cross my fingers for you.
I am a teacher in heart but unfortunately not currently in the physical realm due to issues with my degree...HATE my school!!!!
But fortunately I at least have A job. I work reception for a multi-million dollar company-actually companies, where the average age is 60...I kid you not. I'm the youngets person there. My supervisor is a harpy and Im sure she will harass me today lol but I REFUSE to let her annoy me! I am going to sing songs from WICKED when I make the coffee to annoy her
I student taught 2nd and 4th gade-LOVED my 2nd grade!!! Miss them so much. So I intend to finish my degree and go back-prob start subbing. I dont wnat to stay in the classroom though; done administartion for so many years Im more comfortable I think with being an assistant principal or Dean. I'm good at organizational and getting things done and without solid administrations, good teachers get shafted.

Re: What does everyone do for a living??
grad student, not currently working bc my doctoral program in Clinical Psych takes up alot of my time. I plan to work w/ people who have disabilities/chronic illness. Ideally, I may like to incorporate my faith and working with ppl w/ disabilities, so maybe working for a Church or starting some type of ministry.

I'm a teacher who is currently unemployed.
Now I hear there is an hiring freeze for NYC teacher comign up in January, Isn't that terrific???
So I am back to subbing. I hate being a sub, but I love teaching kids.
I wish I could find another job where I could work with children.
I thought about going to school for a second master's but I think I am too old now. I have no patience for school!
