What is something that was said/happened during the ceremony that really resonated with you?
For me, it was a few things that the priest said during his homily. I love this priest - he always has a way of saying things that make you feel like he's talking directly to you like he knows you, even though he doesn't.
He said during the homily that marriage is about building each other up, not tearing each other down. I have a bad habit of getting snippy with DH when he doesn't do the things I ask him to do. I say some mean things to him because I think that since he's a guy that it won't bother him. But I have to stop doing that - he does have feelings! And I also don't give him as much credit as I should when he does something good.
The priest also said to me to not hold grudges against DH. When he makes a mistake, let it go. I almost burst into tears when he said this, because it's another thing that I'm SO guilty of, and there's no way he could've known this about me.
I just reminded myself this morning of these 2 things, because DH has been getting on my nerves so bad lately! We're leaving on our cruise Saturday and I'm trying not to be mad at him because of some petty little things he's done

Our pastor said to each day do something to make your spouse's day a little happier or easier, whether it be leaving them a note saying 'I love you,' or picking up dinner on the way home. He said marriage needs to be cultivated like flowers, and when you do not actively work at it, it will wither.
He also said to remember to take time to be children, and laugh and play. Marriage seems so grown up (for lack of better words!), but when we go swing on the swings in our complex and jump off, it feels like all of our responsibilities disappear.

1. When my father gave me away. He is a guy that only does what he wants, when he wants to do it. So that fact that he gave me away let me know that he knows that DH will always be my protector and provider.
2. The way DH was crying when I walked the the isle, then continued to cry durning the ceremony. I have never seen him cry and I never thought I ever would. He just kept whispering 'Thank you' to me, and I remember thinking that no matter what, I am now a total, complete person.
3. When the lady sang Ava Maria, I felt a certain grace come over me, and I looked over at my mother, who had eloped, and the look on her face made me so glad that I went ahead and got married in the church, because it gave her the chance to feel exactly how I was feeling

It sounds so funny, but when we were lighting our unity candle, it wouldn't light. It started to, and then as I was starting to blow out my taper, it started to go out. DH was about to try to relight it and then it just came back on. Everyone laughed and clapped...of course we had forgotten to trim the wick before brining the candle to church. But I can't help but feel it's sort of symbolic. We've certainly had a strange relationship and there were lots of times that I didn't think we were actually going to persevere and end up together...but we always have. I almost feel like DH wouldn't ever give up on our relationship, even when I've been ready to. Even now, I think about the future and I get really worried because there's the moving back and forth across the ocean stuff and I wonder what the he11 did I get myself into. But then I think about that candle...and it really makes me feel better...
Also, when my dad gave me away, he shook my DH's hand. Later on, after we received our proofs, my DH told me that he almost lost it right then and it meant so much to him. I know my Dad and my DH really like and respect one another and that means a lot to me.

We ended up having two priests officiate because the church told me to go ahead and get a priest from outside since they couldn't guarantee us a priest to perform the mass (it was a Sunday and the priests were only allowed two masses each)
They both acknowledged that we must be made for each other because DH was born and raised in Poland until he was 13 and if his parents never decided to move to USA and more specifically LI, we never would have met but it must have been meant to be.

In my husband's essay about me that the priest read, he said:
'Being with Andrea is like being on a first date with your soulmate every day.'
I thought that was really sweet.

I pretty much agree with that! The only thing that stands out in my mind was my husband's eyes when I came up the aisle - he was tearing up and he never cries. And then, when we were about to do our vows, he just choked up, and it was so emotional. I have never felt so loved and safe. The vows are really the only part I remember from the whole thing. Oh, and our kiss. That was really good, too . . .

That is too funny! I hope he knows it will take a long time for him to live that one down with you!

All I can think of is that my DH almost cried when he said his vows.

Oh yes, he is reminded by my DH more than me :) It was funny, just the wrong place, wrong time I am sure one day DH will laugh about it too :)

My usually cold as ice father smiling at me & saying 'Nikki, my legs are shaking' right before we went down the aisle
and my husband forcing the wrong hand out for me to put his ring on... he so was not getting the hint.

Not at our ceremony but one of our groomsmen made a speech at our RD and said 'Tom, I've never met someone so excited about getting married.' I thought that was a big deal for a guy to say that. It made me teary-eyed and I always think of that and it reminds me how lucky I was to find someone that loves me as much as I love him!
