What is the closest amount of time that you know of to calling off a wedding? (M)

I have a friend who is thinking of calling off of her wedding. I so support this! However, she feels badly because there are only 30 days until her wedding! I say go for it. Better now then wind up divorced! What do you all think? (The guy is a complete arse by the way)

If she's weighed all the pros and cons, and she feels this is the only way then I would tell her to go with her gut feeling.

Is there the slightest possibility that they would want it to work out still?? Have they tried counselling?

Good Luck to your friend!

Re: What is the closest amount of time that you know of to calling off a wedding? (M)

it will be tough now...but IMHO I think it will be SO much tougher afterwards...divorce is not easy...and brings up issues when she does want to get married...

offer to be there with her and write cards returning any gifts she got...and help send out cancellation notices...that could make her decision a bit easier

Re: What is the closest amount of time that you know of to calling off a wedding? (M)

My parents got a call once the DAY of the wedding that it was cancelled. It was for the best though...the girl ended up married to the same person, but years later. They had a lot to work through, were able to and ended up happy in the end. If someone is unsure its never too late to cancel.

If she really thinks that is what she wants to do, it is better to do it as soon as possible. Be there for her she is going to need you!!! Good Luck to her.

Re: What is the closest amount of time that you know of to calling off a wedding? (M)

thanks ladies for your replies! I know that I will be there for her with whatever she needs me for! She is such a nice girl and I think he is very mean to her. He won't 'allow' her to go to graduate school. Can you beleive it? It is unbelievable. It makes me so mad. I hope that she comes to her senses and doesn't marry this guy!

Re: What is the closest amount of time that you know of to calling off a wedding? (M)

I know someone who called off their wedding one week before, so there is never a 'too close' time. People have done it two days before, or that morning!

It's better to cancel now then to knowingly have doubts when walking down the aisle.

My friend attended a wedding where the groom left the church before the wedding started!

Better to call it off now than to wait until she is unhappily married.

Re: What is the closest amount of time that you know of to calling off a wedding? (M)

A friend of mine had her wedding called off the night following her rehearsal dinner.
They had a huge fight and he called it off. She thought it was just the stress and that in the morning he would be ready to go....(they have a history of fighting and then getting back together the next day...)

She got the phone call while getting her hair done, that he was indeed serious, and was not going through with the wedding.

Best thing for both of them though...they were always fighting about something...ALWAYS!

Re: What is the closest amount of time that you know of to calling off a wedding? (M)

Good Luck to your friend in whatever decision she makes. I agree that she should do it now - before the wedding. I know someone whose's DH told her he didn't love her on their honeymoon - flew home and left her there - said he realized he doesn't love her (meanwhile they were dating 6+ years)...now that hurts - why go thru with it all if you have your doubts....she has gotten thru it and has come a long way! I am sure your friend and FI will too.

Re: What is the closest amount of time that you know of to calling off a wedding? (M)

It'll be hard, but better to know that he is not 'the right one' for your friend now than years later and end up divorced. Just let all your guests, venues, and vendors know that the wedding is canceled.

Good luck to your friend.

Re: What is the closest amount of time that you know of to calling off a wedding? (M)

I dont ever think it is ever to close - this is such a major decision - sure a lot of money is invovled - but money is not everything -

I've heard of a bride calling the wedding off two days before the wedding- of course it was bec she found out her dear fiance had a little too much fun at the bachelor party -

Good for her though - the guy was a total @ss.
