What is the funniest thing someone said to you or DH..
when they found out you were getting married. The In laws reaction post got me to thinking. I will never forget DH telling me how he had called my father to ask him a few weeks before we got engaged. He said that my dad was delighted but asked my future husband why he didn't ask for my hand. He said he would have been glad to cut it off and hand it to him. My dad the character; so corny.
I also remember my boss who is an older man, getting out his magnifying glass and inspecting the rock and trying to do his best to give me an appraisal.

my boss who is the CEO of my company was holding a big meeting the Monday afterwards. I had to run some forecasting reports for him and I brought them into the conference room where all these bigwigs were sitting and he took my hand & bit my ring to make sure it was 'real' ... he's a real character, so it was pretty funny, but I was mortified in front of all the other people. They were all laughing at us and I just wanted to crawl out of there!

We got engaged the night after the blackout and I was working in Manhattan at the time and ended up getting stuck in the city with coworkers! Anyway...Monday when I came into work, someone said, 'Damn! You could have used that to guide yourself home in the blackout!' It was sweet and funny...I always remember that.
And on my hubby's end...a friend jokingly gave him a viagra pill.

I don't really remember a funny thing that was said, but I do remember a funny situation. As soon as we got engaged, I called my parents (who knew it was happening) and my mom called her friends to share the news. Well, one of my mom's friends is also my best friend's MIL and of course, she called my friend after hearing from my mom.
I called my best friend to give her the news and she was squealing in my ear as soon as she heard it was me. I didn't even get to tell her, she was scream, hooting, hollering, all excited! It was hilarious!

We went upstairs to tell the landlords (also friends). It was Christmas morning and my landlady was talking to her daughter, gabbing away. My landlord shows her my hand and she yells into the phone 'I'll Call you back!' and hung up on her own daughter. It was pretty funny.

Really I don't remember anything specific. There were A LOT of 'it's about time' though.

We got engaged at my brother's wedding. My DH had asked my dad that morning and said that he was going to do it in the evening. We were taking family pictures and my dad insisted that my DH be in them...if I wasn't suspicious before, I definitely was then...

That is the SAME thing people said to me at my office!
I do keep my life very private at work, but really I had a few pics of my DH (then boyfriend) on my desk - it wasn't like some huge SECRET or anything
That and just the generalized look of SHOCK on most of my friends and distant family members faces at the news.. I was a pretty happy single and I had SWORN I was NEVER getting married .. so since I was in my mid-30s by the time I was engaged, I guess people had starting believing me
