What should I do with my cat??

What should I do with my cat??

DH and I are finally going on our HM the 18th to the 28th. Our one option to watch her was DH's cousin but she's going to be away too. We were thinking of having someone come and feed her while we were gone but 10 days for her to be alone is a lot and she eats a lot so someone would have to come at least 2 times a day. What are my options??

the best option would be to have her at a kennel. she will at least have someoen there feeding and monitoring her. it can be an expensive option---but i also would not feel comfortable with leaving my kitty alone for 10 days and having someone just come by and feed her.

can you have someone housesit for you and actually stay at your place?

the cat should be fine- my mom goes away for a lot longer than that and I go every other day to clean the kitty litter and feed her. We just leave out lots of water and two days worth of food.

I thought about the kennel but I heard theyre expensive especially for 10 days. The other option is the housesitting option but DH is paranoid of having someone stay here! Like theyre gonna go through our stuff or something. I might have to try and really convince him on this or we're gonna have to dish out 200 bucks or more for the kennel

I wouldnt leave her alone. They're like kids in terms of getting into trouble and in the summer it gets HOT in our apartment even with windows open so their water goes fast. We left ours with our in-laws on our HM. We just felt more comcortable espeically in the heat because they can dehydrate and they get lonely too.

Zoe also eats like a horse and Simon is slow and kinda stupid lol so if we leave out too much food she ends up piking from overeating and he ends up starving.

I left my Kitty @ hm for our HM . We were away for 2 1/2 wks.
We had someone come in twice a day. We alternated friends and family. Cats usually don't like to be taken out of their environment. If you don't have to I would not do it.
There are people you can hire to do this as well 'kitty sitters'. I might know of someone but I don't know where you reside.

We left the window open a crack a mini fan on and also the radio on on soft. You can also leave the TV on as well.

Is there anyone that would be willing to sleep at your house for the time that your gone? Just throwing it out there as another option.

this is so hard! She's usually good with eating but if I put A LOT in her bowl she will eat it faster. DH's step-mother just agreed to watch her while we were gone. We dont really have any options for people staying here. I just hope his step-mom is up for the commitment. I would like her to come by twice a day but thats a lot I think. She lives right around the corner though and walks her dog twice a day so maybe she could fit it in then. Ill see. Thanks for the suggestions girls!

oh geese my kitty does the same thing.
You know they sell time release bowls for pets for this reason. It is inexpensive it is something to consider. I also have a filtered water fountain for my kitty so I don't ever have to worry about her getting thirsty or dehydrated during the day when I am at work.

I sell on ebay I can sell one to you if you like for cheaper

Are they big and bulky?? What does it look like?? That might be a good idea for when we go away.

Not sure if you trust a stranger coming into your home, but I called a local pet sitter that I got from the pennysaver or yellow pages. The owner of the company gave me referrals of customers who used the person and they were very happy w/her. I had the woman come every other day. It was much more reasonable than a kennel. In my opinion 10 days is definitely too long to leave your cat alone.

I just thought of that also. I think the only one on LI is in Huntington, but that is a great idea.

I have the 8 day feeder for my cat and I love it! It can be a little confusing to set, but once it's all set up it works great. I still have someone come to the house to check on her every other day and change her water, but this way they don't have to come over and feed her every day.

DH and I were away for 10 days on our HM and MIL came over once a day.... we put the TV on timer to go on 7pm to 7am - this way he would have little bit of light and voices....???

I will say I think he preferred being in his own enviornment.... but he seemed REALLY happy that we came back..... for days he wouldn't leave our side.

good luck :)

Thanks for the suggestions girls. Im getting so sad looking at her and thinking of leaving her. If the hotel allowed pets I would totally bring her with me! im gonna keep researching my options.

When we left for our honeymoon, we were going to board our two cats, but my good friend took them for two weeks. We just went to Puerto Rico and left them various bowls of water and food (and they also eat a lot) and we had a friend come in and check on them a few times. You can leave a cat alone for at least two nights.

Call your vet-they usually can recommend either a place to board the cat or someone who can pet sit.

Where are you located? I know our vet has someone (Shinnecock Animal Hospital in Hampton Bays)

L....Momma or Belinda cant watch her??

I would def at least have someone check it on her once a day if you can. Do you know your neighbors? Do you trust them?

Re: What should I do with my cat??

if you don't get that automatic feeder, there are ones that just let the cat eat what it wants which you might get. our 1 cat is always hungry but did not go crazy with it. so it might work for you.

I think you might want to see if someone will clean the litter box for you. if it gets too full, the cat might not want to use it and go elsewhere. or you might want to get extra ones and leave say 4 of them - - that should give her enough clean space for 10 days I would think.

a fan is a good idea too.
