What to do when you don't receive a card or gift from a guest? Possibly in error?

We don't have a card or gift from a friend of DH's mother, who came with a date. It seems odd to not even give a card, and I am a little afraid it may have been replaced--did this happen to you? Should I have his mother try to casually mention it? It seems so odd to not even give a card...

I wouldnt have anyone mention it. I am sending TY's to the people who didnt bring anything in hopes that when they dont see a mention for a card or gift they remember to send one.
