What to wear to apply for a restaurant job?

What to wear to apply for a restaurant job?

Several restaurants near me are looking for hostesses and waitresses. I'm going to go to them today to apply. I plan on wearing a nice thin sweater (vneck solid, peach color, very business casual) and a pair of striped gray dress pants. Is this ok? Is it too dressy? I want to still look professional but I wonder if that might be detrimental in a restaurant setting - will I come off as too corporate or 'stuffy' ???

I don't think so, I think you'll look fine. Most hostesses wear outfits similar to what you're wearing. I think it shows you're taking this seriously!

Good luck!

I was toying with the notion of applying for hostess jobs too! No one else is hiring!

I think that is fine. Most restaurants I have worked in require the hostesses to dress nicely (no jeans). And if your waitressing chances are they are going to have you wearing black pants or something like that anyway. Good luck!!

Nope, what you plan to wear is perfect.

Great, thanks.

I have no experience in either but totally am willing to just hostess and maybe get experience so that I am considered to take over waitress shifts if someone is sick, etc. Does anyone know if hostesses get a portion of tips in most restaurants? I know applebees does this, hoping all do ....

Ive worked in restaurants my whole life and usually always gets hired on the spot. I wear sexy jeans a nice top and boots whenever I go on an interview.

You should just put places on your resume anyway. (Everyone does it) restaurants Ive hostessed at do not give portion of their tips unless youre a bottle hostess at a club.

That's what I was thinking about. But, these are more family places - does it matter? One's a brewery but has a lot of families there all the time - and the other is a long established italian restaurant ...

i think what u're planning on wearing is perfect...unless it's a super trendy place/lounge i'd stick with what u have planned

also about the tipping - i waitressed for a while & all the places i worked at always tipped out the hostess. i forget the percentage, but they always got a portion.
