What women should do BEFORE TTC....

Original post by MrsD71208

I am sure others are wondering the same, so why not? Do any new-mothers, friends of mothers or even women who have been mothers for a while now have any advice for women who want to TTC within a 6 month-12 month period? I know that people start things like prenatals much earlier than when they TTC...TIA!

When I told my dr. we wanted to TTC he told me we would get me off the pill 6 months before the wedding cause we knew we were going try to start right away. I also took Folic Acid every day 400 mg and started to take prenatals at night right before the wedding!

My gyno told me that the 6month rule was bogus he said he reccomends getting off BC and going through one or two full cycles before TTC but if you didnt it is okay...I was surprised

I also was like I might come of BC right after wedding bc I dont want being on BC to make it hard for me to have prob's and he was said 'coming off the pill a year earlier wont change anything honestly if your going to have probs TTC you just will'

in other words the pill doesnt really effect that much this is what h told me anyway

I was planning to come off BCP a few months before trying.. so right before the wedding, I did.. and low and behold... by the time I was back from my honeymoon for 2 weeks, I was late.. and, we have a baby girl on its way!!! I didnt do ANYTHING to prepare... but I would recommend prenatals.. they help you prepare.. and i am sure any gyno would perscribe them to anyone who is trying!

DH and I are TTC and my doctors are not really recommending anything. I told my dr I started pre-natal (One A Day--it's the only one my stomach can handle) and she said that was good.

I do not Ov regularly due to PCOS, so after researching I've found the only helpful solution is Ov Tests taken every AM.

It was also recommended by family members to stop eating shellfish, soft cheeses, and cold cuts because you just never know! (if you're actively trying)

Dont be down on yourself with PCOS. It's VERY possible to get pregnant with irregular periods

Just dont stress. During your TTC time, you'll learn a lot about your body. You can even tell when you're ovulating without using OPKs. Since PCOS sufferers never know when their period is coming, you'd waste a lot of money testing for ovulation during that time. I didnt bother and my last cycle was almost 60 days. but I knew in that time frame when I was ovuating. Just by cramps, cervical mucus and completely BLOATED

My doctor recommends 6 months but she said it isn't necessary. She says that is a good amount of time to have your body adjust. But it is just a recommendation and nothing more. Some women take longer to get on a regular cycle some shorter so it is an average time frame. She also does not recommend getting pregnant before going through at least once cycle off of BC but she also finished that with you can still get pregnant while on BC so what is to say that you won't get pregnant as soon as you come off of it.

I don't think it is a something bad will happen it is more of a let your body adjust thing.

Honestly the one big thing I feel is... Don't 'try' to hard. I have always found that if you mark the calendar constantly, and count days... it gets all too routine. You have to just try and let it happen...

My doctor told me when we are ready to go off the pill at least 3 months before and get your period at least twice before you really start to try. She also recommended takine pre-natal vitamins. For those of you that dont have a regular cycle off the pill she recommend using one of those pregnancy kits.

My friend who is pregnant told me to start taking One A Day Women's Prenatal before, during and after pregnancy. It has 800mg of Folic Acid.
But as of right now, I am boycotting my husband from baby making, after he just told me yesterday, that I have to start eating right and working out before TTC...and that he has noticed I have a little belly lately....Meanwhile I am a size 2 and I always eat right. I just don't eat so strictly like he does. I am pissed at his comment. He can go farck himself. The nerve of him. So I haven't worked out since the wedding...big deal. I worked my *** off at the gym for a year....What's wrong with a break. He needs to be schooled with Husband 101 and what you DO NOT say to your wife.

prenatals about 3 months before and its good if you get yourself in a good workout/aerobic routine before getting pregnant
