What would you be willing to pay?

Original post by SFAR89

The other day I was in the car thinking, and of course I thought about making a LIW post lol

Since money is tight for me right now, I was thinking about the things I need and how much I would be willing to pay for them. So I wanted to see what you girls thought as well.

What would you be willing to pay for certain items you normally buy?:

I don't think I would ever pay more than $30 for a pair of jeans.

I think $20 for a shirt is reasonable depending on the shirt and how nice it is. (dressy/sexy/etc.)

I wont pay more than $8-10 for a tank top.

I am willing to pay up to $60 for new sheets.

$100 for a winter coat is reasonable to me.

I would pay $15 for eye shadow.

$10 for lunch seems like a good deal to me.

I can never get out of Walmart for under $100.

I think $3.00 for a cup of sprinkles for decorating cupcakes is too much lol

I don't like to spend more than $40 on shoes, but boots I will spend up to $60 for a nice pair that will last a long time.

Re: What would you be willing to pay?

hahaha Justin would do the same thing. I do watch my pennies when I can, and if I see coupons I try to use them. I almost always go for meat when it's on sale, or buy one get one or something like that. I never buy it full price unless it's an emergency and I am having a dinner party and need something.

I don't really care much about name brands, but I do know that sometimes certain brands are of very good quality. I will pay more for something if I know it's a good brand b/c I will get more of a use out of it b/c it will last longer.

Re: What would you be willing to pay?

Jeans: I used to be like you, but after trying on and owning the $$ ones, now I think I won’t spend more than $100 (and buy fewer pairs)—I still get them on sale

Shirt: really depends what kind of shirt…probably $25 in most cases, unless it’s a sweater or really nice

Tank Top: probably $15 but it would have to be fancier than a basic tank for that (basic tanks, under $10)

Sheets: eh don’t know…

Winter coat: really depends what kind of coat…

Eye Shadow: Not more than $5-$7…yes I’m cheap about make-up

Going out for lunch: $10 is pretty standard, but I NEVER go out for lunch

Shoes: I agree with under $40, but boots sometimes you have to spend more!

My general theory is I don’t buy anything full price. I’m trying to get better quality things at lower prices these days, and splurge only where the splurging will make a difference (really something that’s better quality or better fit, or what have you).

Re: What would you be willing to pay?

I am the cheapest person with the most expensive taste! I'm a fan of sales and coupons.

If I am spending cash on my clothes - Old Navy or Ann Taylor Loft Outlets on sale are my homes away from home.

I usually only buy clothes 2x a year, with the very occasionally outfit purchase for a special party or something. Even that is usually with gift cards I've acquired in time! lmao.

Either way, I rarely if EVER pant more than $40 for jeans, pants or a top. Tank tops and tees are usually a buy one, get one free or 1/2 off.

Bras - I only have Frederick's bras b/c VS don't fit right.

Panties - the 5 for $25 from VS fill my drawer! All different cuts, but all the same price! lmao

Shoes - I've never paid more than $50 on any shoes EXCEPT my wedding shoes which were $65. lmaoo. I have gotten $150 Clavin Klein pumps for $45 in Macy's thanks to a sale and a gift card.

Makeup - With the exception of my MAC lipgloss and lip liner, everything else is from drugstore.com: Cover Girl, Neutrogena and Almay. lmaoo.

Anything I can't get on sale... I usually save up for or ask for as a gift! lmaoo...

Wow I agree with most of what you put!!! I don't spend that much on clothes and shoes..to me its a waste..How many times (think years) will you rewear something anyway? I don't even have clothing from 3 years ago! That and considering trends change, things go out of style, etc. Its not worth it to me.
The second biggest waste to me is cars..in 10 years they are worth nothing! lol So my car payment is 150 bucks a month!!! I wouldn't spend much over 200. I'd rather put money into an investment such as a house or stocks.
Lipgloss top I will spend is 10 bucks
Makeup/foundation around 20-25..I wear bare minerals so thats why
Purses are my obsession! lol So I normally don't spend over 400. I love coach.
A coat I won't spend over 200.
FOOD not a dime! I bring my own lunch to work!!! its too expensive to eat out.

Oh man reading this post reminds me why I am terrible at saving!

EyeShadow - I've paid up to 45
Lipgloss - I think 20 something was the most

Jeans - I will be honest, I dont care how much it costs as long as it fits and its flattering. I am not a small girl, so if I find one that fits it's mine!

Going out shirts - The same as above, I think the most I've spent has been around 90 bucks.

Shoes - I draw the line at 90 bucks (heels) - but I have to love them.

Jackets - under 200- preferrably low 100's.

Sneakers - 50 bucks. I only use them to run.

Purse - I think under 250 is extremely reasonable.

Work shirts - no more than 40 bucks

Slacks - no more than 50

Re: What would you be willing to pay?

Good thread!!

Jeans, probably like $40, $50 for dress pants. (except, now I am borrowing my sister's jeans that are too big on her b/c I really dotn want to buy too much stuff now)

Shirt- up to $40 depending on the style and how it looks on me....$15 if its like a t shirt . $15 for a tank top.

Shoes, up to $40 for most unless I REALLY have to have them and will get a lot of use out of them.

$60 for new sheets, but thats the king size jacard stripe ones they have at BBB... good price for nice sheets.

$150 for a winter coat, but only if it will fit me for awhile

I would pay $18 for eye shadow, but that's stila and I love it! I wont need more before like 3 years.

I am willing to pay for good makeup and skin care stuff b/c it truly is better than drug store brands. IMO anyhoo.. I try to buy when there is a bonus gift though.

Pocketbooks up to $400, but I only get a new one like every 2-3 years

Car- we just busted our budget for that one b/c we bought rather than leased. But we will own it in a few years and have a few years without payments so it will work out.

I went into Target to get Murphys Oil Soap and walked out spending $100...go figure. haha

We buy fruits and veggies at the fruit tree in copaigue so its cheap. The supermarket gets you $1.99 per lb for peppers where the Fruit Tree is 79 cent per lb.

For groceries in general, we stock up when something we use often is on sale.

$8 for lunch, but I usually eat at home- lean cuisine bought on sale, of course

So yes, beauty and pocketbooks are more important than food to me

ETS, I search online for coupons for everything and most times wont buy things like clothes unless I have a coupon!!!

Re: What would you be willing to pay?

I don't have a problem spending money, but I hate paying full price.

for instance I recently bought a pair of 7 jeans from TJMaxx for $90...but the original price was $160....I would never spend that much for jeans...it's too painful.

I struggle spending $250 on a bag even though thats the half off price...but if it's the only bag I buy for the year or even 2 years...I reason that it's the same as buying1 or 2 cheap bags for each season. (it has to be a timeless piece though...otherwise its a waste)

I try to spend no more than $7 for lunch...and sometimes if dinner was good I bring in leftovers to balance out the days I go up to $10

shoes it varies greatly. if it's a pair I know I'll have forever ...I don't mind spending $$ on em. but if its more of a current fashion trend that will go out of style eventually...I won't pay more than $60. but I paid $200 for my frye boots and that was half off and I paid about $135 for my prada ballet flats also at half off. I wear the ballet flats alot and theyre comfy. I know that those frye boots will serve me for a looong time.

I try not to spend more than $20 for a shirt...alot of my shirts I get from TJ Maxx.

I'd spend $100 0n a good winter coat...but again...I'd get it at a store like TJ Maxx or something like it so I'd be getting more value / quality for less money. I love looking like I spent $200 when I only spent half :o)

I have recently become an avid coupon clipper! I always search coupon codes and printable coupons online before I shop because paying full price if there is a coupon is just retarded. I never used to care about coupons...but now...I feel silly NOT using them.

Re: What would you be willing to pay?

Definitely no more than $30 for jeans.

I think $20 for a shirt is reasonable. However, I love a bargain. I'm an outlet shopper now...I bought a BCBG shirt that was originally $148 and I got it for $16.

I wont pay more than $5 for a tank top.

I worked in bedding for a year at Fortunoff so I know that $60 is too much for sheets. Honestly, higher thread count is not always better. They are softer and tend to rip so I go for anything under $40.

$100 for a winter coat is reasonable to me. I will buy it and wear it for multiple years so it's ok.

I would pay no more than $5 for makeup. I go to Ulta with a coupon and buy their brand when it's buy one get one.

I bring my breakfast and lunch to work to save $$.

I actually have started to order my groceries on peapod. I always have a coupon and I spend less because I'm not walking up and down aisles and buying things I don't need. I only buy what I need.

Shoes again are bought at an outlet and they never run more than $40.

I like name brands and nice things but I refuse to pay full price for...well...anything. I LOVE a good deal. It really makes my day!

Re: What would you be willing to pay?

great thread idea!

no matter what I spend at least $50 every time I walk into Target!

I'd spend $48 on one good bra--worth every penny!

The highest I'll pay for makeup is $15

however I will drop some $$ on beauty products like moisturizer etc. I wont spend more than $80 on a cream, lotion, perfume etc.

I buy my jeans for $90...and I hate it

I refuse to pay more than $5 for a sandwich or $2 for a cup of coffee

I will spend $15 on a martini however

shoes--never more than $80

winter coat--up to $200

purses--highest I've ever paid is $95. I stalk purses until they go on sale

I won't pay for more than $1.99 per lb for grapes

shirts vary--no more than $60 I'd say

I also get aggravated when books or dvds are more than $14.99

wont pay more than $8 for a manicure (non-french)

lastly, sunglasses--no more than $25 for me. I always sit on them somehow and they break!

Re: What would you be willing to pay?

This is interesting reading all this and why some people spend more on some things but not others...

$150-250 on Jeans
But I only buy like 1 pair a year . Some people buy bags and some dont and then some buy jeans. I would rather my butt and legs look good than a bag on my arm.

$50 - handbags - sometimes more but usually not. It depends on my mood and if there is a sale.

$25-30 on work shoes (TJ Maxx and I still get name brand)

$30-75 on 'going out' shoes

$15 on eyeshadow, other makeup is sporadic, could be $10, could be $40

$10-20 on work shirts (only buy them on sale at express and they turn out to be SO cheap)

$30-70 on going out shirts (but dont buy alot, a few per season)

$0-9 on lunch but I usually try to bring my own

$20-60 on dinner: eating out with friends or with hubby (we eat out a lot)

$75-150 on getting hair done

$100-150 for winter coat. But only buy one every few years.

$40 for bra

I agree with your post! I never buy anything thats not on sale...inless I really have to have it. I used to work in retail and I know how much prices drop on an item.
