What Would You Do

What would you do in this situation?

A friend came to your wedding that you had a big hall. That friend is now getting married in their home. Do you give the same gift they gave you?

Of course, I would.I don't see a difference in where they have their venue.Thats just what I would do though.

Hmm I know technically the idea of wedding present for a hall is to cover your plate and offer a little extra. HOWEVER, if she is a good friend and you have the money./present and had already palnned to give it to her, I still would. I wouldnt let the change in venue deter me from giving a gift I intended to from the start unless I really couldn't afford it.

And if she was generous to you, why wouldn't you return the favor?

I have a friend getting married in may, both DH and I are in the bridal party, only she was in my bridal party, and there hall is costing wayyyyy more then ours did. They were extremely generous with a gift to us ( I'm talking more then a lot of our close family) I have no idea why.. But we will return the same to them... No matter the situation, its always right to do, unless you are completely financial strapped for money and they are aware of the situation. Otherwise, it is the correct thing to do.

Definitely!!!!
The size or location of your RH shouldn't have anything to do with how much $$$ you give. It should depend on your relationship with your friend and were you are financially. It should come from your heart... not who gave what and the size of the wedding.

I give the same amount as a wedding gift regardless of where the reception is held, the 'cover your plate' idea really annoys me.

I would give the same amount.

Those whose weddings we've attended in the past gave us the same as we'd given to them (eventhough their venues may have been either more expensive or much much cheaper)

I agree...everyone's idea about celebrating a wedding is different and not everyone can afford the same thing...

i'd give what i could afford---case closed.

but i don't think cause they are having it in a home means that they deserve 'less' of a gift from you than if they had it in a hall. IMO that just seems a little bit judgemental--like you're saying that her wedding isn't 'worth' the same anymore cause its in a home.

BTW- we were thinking of doing a backyard wedding way back when the planning started, and when you factor in the cost to rent everything, china, tables linens, servers, it actually cost more then a hall. So i don't think you should base your gift on location.
