What would you do?

Original post by squeekietoy

So I'm having this internal dilemna. My sister is getting married at the end of this month. We already had her shower and I got her a lovely gift. Now, my sister did not give me a my husband a gift of any kind for our wedding. I never confronted her about this because I didn't want to be a *****. My question is, do I not gift her like she did to me, or should I be a better person and get her something small?
(The whole situation just makes me angry because she should know better.)

My sister was my MOH at my wedding and she never got me anything. But I also wasnt expecting anything. If you want to get her something I'd say just get it...dont bring it up that she never got you anything. Just give it to her and let her be happy. When you had ur shower, did she have a good job? or was she having financial problems?

She had the same job that she has now. She's not struggling. Her FH is an Air Traffic Controller as well. They're not struggling.

Was she responsible for paying for your shower? Maybe she couldnt afford anything else??

No. Ready to have your mind blown? Nobody in my family wanted to throw a shower for me. So one of my husbands female friends and my MOH (my best friend) hosted my shower.

Why would your other sister throw hers and not yours?? I would do what you feel is right. It sounds like some other stuff may have been going on...

They're twins. I KNOW, it's not an excuse, but, whatever. At this point, it is what it is.

I'm sorry, you sound like you were really hurt by that- and I would have been too

I would definately get her something small, it sounds like you would have gotten her a gift if things were on better terms and if it were me, I know I would feel guilty later on for not getting something. Definately talk to your sister after the wedding though and tell her it bothered you.

It could be b/c you chose a friend for your MOH and not your sisters and they were following traditional ways. Either way I would still get something because I wouldnt want to regret it later. If I were you I would talk to your sisters and smooth over some of you unsaid hurt feelings.

How close are you? I would talk to her about it. Not in a bad way but just say listen, its an expensive year and lets not give eachother gifts. I mean your wedding is in the past yes, but I would need to confront you know?

My sister and I both had weddings in the same year. We decided no gifts but then we decided to do registry items (keep sakes) you know and spend $100-150 on eachother. I liked that. If anything, do a keepsake or something nice off her registry.

I would go with $100.

Uhm, I could say something to her but she would probably take it the wrong way. Because she's like that. Like after the wedding I had said something to my other sister about my other sister not gifting us at the wedding and she said 'IDK, maybe Gina ran out of money and she's going to give you something later.' That never happened and I never brought it up. I even said something to my mom and she just made excuses for her. So, I think I'm just going to buy a small registry item and suck it up.

My DH's brother, the best man, didn't give us a gift either. Said he was going to, but didn't. We have a bunch of other people - family and close friends - who didn't give gifts either. So I know how you feel.

Most of our BP (of about 18ppl) didnt give us a gift. It's difficult but try not to let it get to you. Can you loan her something that you used for your wedding so that it could be her something borrowed? Since you already got her a nice shower gift I wouldnt spend too much money on it.

honestly she is your sister & you should be able to talk to her about it. Ask her if she forgot or ask if she was having money difficulties during your wedding since you never received her gift. Somethign to that affect. At least you will know.

I would get her something small and meaningful. My sister and I are so close...I would have said something like 'Its better than NOTHING lol' after I give her the gift...and laugh it off.

I agree with all of you ladies that said to get her something small. This is obviously bothering you a lot and you might not feel right giving her nothing later because it's partially out of (forgive me for saying this) anger it sounds like, and past hurt too. This way you are still taking the higher road and not going out of your way...kind of a compromise
