I know I'd buy my mom a house. I couldn't even begin to think what I'd do. Maybe I'd start a theater company or something.
Okay I've got some ideas.... pay off our school loans (yea!) houses on LI (somewhere south shore) and in NJ (somewhere like Atlantic Highlands, where Jon Bon Jovi lives - seriously it's gorgeous! ) college for all my nieces/nephew and our own kids of course buy a house for FIL so he could live closer to us instead of South Carolina!
DH has this fantasy of having a Park Ave apartment from April-October for baseball, have a place in Pittsburgh for his Steelers, and live in Vegas most of the year. He is WACKED.

Re: What would you do if you won the lottery?
Call an archetict and have him come right over to start designing my house. While its being done, I would travel to Europe for a month. If I loved my job, I would work part time, after taking a 6 month leave to have fun.

I'd buy my parents an apt here in the city.
I'd pay for my sisters school loans and for her wedding.
I'd tell Roy to quit his job and start writing.
I'd take tons of classes, pay off my loans and we'd take vacations whenever I wasn't working
ahhhh..it's nice to dream

Re: What would you do if you won the lottery?
I would quit my job immediately.
Pay off our mortgage, and buy 3 more homes-- a 5 bedroom penthouse on the UWS, a villa in Tuscany, and a home in Israel.
I would go shopping with my grandmother.
I'd send my Dad on an amazing trip to somewhere fabulous.
I would go straight to an island for 2 weeks to celebrate.
I'd make a FAT donation to something associated with helping people who don't have a lot of money and are fighting cancer
I'd go back to school to pursue a profession that helps people.
I'd buy a really pretty sapphire. And a matching one for someone else
I'd pay my bills
I'd go down the street and buy dinner for every homeless person I see.
I'd never worry about money again.
I'd be a lot better dressed than I currently am.
I'd save the rest
I'll keep dreaming........

Re: What would you do if you won the lottery?
First I would pay off my DH student loans, by me, my parents, my sister and my brother a really nice house in the same area and each a new car. Set one of my aunts up (who is basically a second mother to me) with enough money for her to retire... pay of my in-laws house.... college fund for my future kids and for all 3 of my god children and give a lot of the remaining balance to charity. I hear horror stories of what $$$ does to people. I really would just like enough money to pay off my house and debts and be able to go back to school full time to be a teacher (and be able to live off of a teacher's salary!!!!!)

Re: What would you do if you won the lottery?
I probably would NOT quit one of my jobs because I simply love it [I manage an art gallery part-time, used to be my FT job until I got a new FT job] just cuz I know I can't sit in one spot for 4 minutes
I would buy a new home on the north shore- glen cove, east hills, that area...
Then I'd start up a vineyard definately one in Tuscany and maybe even one here on LI just to keep it OG.
And I'd give alot to family, donations, etc...
ETA: CLEARLY I'd be winning $300M...

Re: What would you do if you won the lottery?
I'd...
Pay off school loans and all our bills. Buy my parents a house. Buy us a house. Remodel MIL's house (it's paid off, but old). Set up a trust for my brother for college. Take my close friends and family on vacation. Go back to school. Donate Invest
I wouldn't quit my job right away though. I'd wait a little until I decide exactly what I'll be doing.

Re: What would you do if you won the lottery?
1. Not tell anyone except some family. 2. Set up trust funds to finance the education of my neices and nephews through graduate school if they want to go. 3. Depending on the amount of money, give lump sums (probably through trust fund or other slightly more tax-protected vehicle) to my parents and siblings. At the very least, pay off all of the mortgages. 4. Quit my job. Yup, I love it, but someone else can have to long hours. 5. Buy a horse farm / vineyard. 6. Start two non-profit organizations (or give material support to two) -- one for therapeutic horseback riding for people with disabilities and inner city at-risk kids and one for the homeless. The homeless shelter would be a transition program - They would be given job training, jobs, etc., would be taught to manage money, etc. They would have to pay nominal amounts as rent, utilities, savings, etc. (though I'd prefer if all mony went to them when they graduate the program)... There's a similar program in existence already. If I felt it was run well, I'd provide material support there to expand the program. 7. Hire Jillian Michaels as my personal trainer. 8. DH would surely start his own business, probably a hedge fund or something or perhaps a commercial vineyard. 9. Make at least 2 ridiculous purchases -- probably a lambourghini and a really, really super expensive horse. 10. Buy at least one racehorse. 11. Wisely invest the rest of the money and live off the interest.

Re: What would you do if you won the lottery?
I'd give money to my parents, IL's, SIL, BIL, my sister and my brother
Then I would buy a couple of houses .... 2 investment houses, and 1 nice big one to live in.
I would go back to Hawaii and then go to Alaska, and all over Europe.
I would put the rest in the bank.
Then, I would go back to work!

Re: What would you do if you won the lottery?
heh, I think I'm the conservatvie one.
about 10million... I'd pay of the remaining bit of my student loan, buy a house in a nice neighborhood, and invest the bulk of it.
about 100 million.... I'd also refurbish mom's house, and do something nice for the IL's......
still, the bulk of it would be invested. money doesn't go as far as it used to, and financial security at my family's current standard of living is my sole concern...
and yes, I'd still be in the lab, but less stressed if a grant wasn't funded....
