DH is pretty good with gift giving, but there was one stocking stuffer he got me last year that made me say 'huh?' He got me this book about being organized, something about organizing my time better...I didn't say anything at first but months later when I got in a fight with him I brought it up, 'what do you think I'm unorganized?' We laugh at it now but I still think that was a bit insulting.
What the worst gift DH's gotten you and could get you that would really insult you?

The first year we lived in the apt we are in now, he got me, among other things, a dishwasher. It miraculously fit up the stairs (he had to get his dad to help him with it) AND in the kitchen, perfectly. I really do appreciate it - we run it 3x a week or so - but for Christmas??
He always spends too much money on Christmas. This year I spent about $250, which is about $150 less than I normally spend but more than I wanted to spend this year - we are trying to save and I have some credit card bills I am trying to get rid of. He was under the impression we were not buying gifts at all (we briefly discussed this and then tossed it out the window) and was mad at me for buying him anything. I think he went shopping Mon night and last night, and he SAYS he has to go again. I don't really want anything -- nothing big, anyhow. A few sweaters and cds would be fine! I am sure tomorrow mornig there will be a barrage of gifts for me to open, way more than I spent on him.
Last year I got a new laptop and other things, and the year before that, a trip to savannah and also other things. He's insane.

usually we get eachother a lot of presents, like we usually spend about 1k each on eachother - so the presents are always good, this year though, not much in the present department b/c of the wedding and HM i did get DH rock band for Wii and i already gave it to him - i picked it up when we got home from the HM - i still have to pick up some stocking stuffers - i know he got me something, we exchange tonight, i have NO CLUE what it is....
BUT
for my birthday in 2007 he got me a bad present first we went to the museum of natural history and the day was awesome, then, he was like, we aren't going home, and he takes me to this fancy hotel and he got us the suite....i was like - i was kind of upset b/c i knew how expensive it was - and to be honest, i was so not prepared to go away for the night - i was so worried about how much money he spent that i said i wanted mcdonalds and i wouldnt even let him take me out to a restaurant i knew he was saving for an engagement ring and i couldnt imagine why on earth he would do that for my bday its was a really nice surprise but at the time i was so disappointed b/c i said i didnt want anything and i meant it - and then he spent a fortune on a hotel, meantime we already live together so its not like we needed a place to be alone like when you live with your parents still.....i dont know, i couldnt figure out why he did that....i guess i would have rathered he cooked me a nice dinner and lit our apartment with candles and made me a bath or something - to me that is romantic - and im still waiting for a night like that! hahahahaha!

I know what you mean. I think they don't know what to get sometimes, and think that if they spend a lot of money it'll be ok, no matter what it is. I mean, you feel grateful that they spent the money in a sense - but as we get older we understand money issues better and it just is weird sometimes. Like when DH got me a brand new, top of the line Toshiba laptop last year when my computer was FINE. It has some issues, yes, but nothing terrible. I didn't need a new one!!!! I almost returned it. I felt bad that he spent the money and all of that, but if I returned it I would have felt like I was rejecting his gift. He drove all the way to Conn. to get it on Christmas eve, at like 3pm!!!! (no traffic he said!!!!)

Awww, that was sweet, but I hear what you're saying. It's so nice that you have that attitude and appreciate thoughtful gestures and don't expect things like he did.
